Work on the Crazy Horse Memorial began in 1948, led by the Polish American sculptor Korczak Ziółkowski. Korczak had previously worked on the famous Mount Rushmore. The project was commissioned by a local Native American man. 🪨Today, the sculpture is still far from completion. When finished, it is expected to be 195 meters long and 172 meters high. The face alone is 25 meters high. ⛰️ At present, work on the project is being continued by the third and fourth generations of the Ziółkowski family. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦The construction of the monument is not, and has never been, publicly funded. Money for the project has been raised through a family foundation.
