My love for shoes started young. Honestly, I just wanted to be like my older brother.

What’s up y’all, I’m Sal Martinez - founder of M3THOD and Massachusetts’ only L2 @hyroxamerica performance coach.

On top of HYROX prep, I specialize as a footwear engineer, bridging the gap between training and footwear education here in Boston.

If you’re struggling to find the right shoe for running, general training, or HYROX, reach out! I’m more than happy to guide you.

And for those who want to work with me 1-1, I am taking more clients in person & online.

Shoot me a DM - my inbox is always open.

You running shoes are costing you seconds on the sled push…

As Boston’s only L2 @hyroxamerica performance coach and footwear engineer, I see athletes waste massive energy on the sled simply because they picked the wrong footwear for race day.

HYROX is half running, but if your shoes collapse under load, you’re leaking power on every single drive.

Here are the 3 things that actually matter when picking race day shoes for the sled:
1️⃣ Stack Height & Midsole: A tall, soft midsole creates an unstable, wobbly platform when you try to drive force directly into the turf.

2️⃣ Foam Compression: Super soft foams squish under heavy load, absorbing your force instead of transferring it into the sled.

3️⃣ Outsole Grip & Lateral Stability: Pure power is useless without traction. If your outsole slips, you can’t push.
Stop guessing if your current setup is working for or against you on the sled.

Comment your race day shoes below and I’ll let you know if they’re a HIT or a MISS!

Shout out to the swoosh fam // @niketraining // @mirandamross for the @hyroxamerica Boston care package.

Pumped to have recruited a squad of savages competing in HYROX Boston for @niketraining

Kitting the crew head to toe and honored to be one of the first athletes in the U.S. in the Hybrid Rn (dropping Oct 8th 😤👟). Which is hands down one of the best daily trainers you can get within the Hybrid space.

Taper time starts now. Let’s cook. 😤

As a L2 @hyroxamerica performance coach and footwear engineer, these are my top 3 choices for race day shoes:

1. @on Cloud X Tempo Pro
-Station Work: Outstanding. Unmatched stability, especially when driving power into the Sled Push and Pull.

-Running: Not my favorite for keeping up pace on the track.

2. @puma Deviate Nitro Elite (HYROX Edition)
-Running: My absolute favorite when pushing for time on the run segments.

-Station Work: Stability can feel a bit iffy, particularly on lunges and wall balls.

3. @saucony Endorphin Pro 5
-Overall: The biggest surprise of the three.

-Why it wins: Balanced performance on both the runs and stations. The slightly wider forefoot makes a huge difference for stability.

Verdict: The Saucony Endorphin Pro is most likely going to be my choice for my next race day.

What is your go-to HYROX race shoe? Did I miss any? Drop your choice in the comments below.

LETS GET IT Y’ALL

As Boston’s ONLY L2 @hyroxusa Performance Coach, my Thursday night crew had the opportunity to be one of the first HYROX classes in the country to test the @niketraining Hybrid RN.

Hands down one of the best shoes hitting the market for station work and stability. I love being able to bridge the gap between footwear education and training for my community.

Huge thank you to @mirandamross for giving my athletes the chance to test them out and provide feedback.

The energy last Thursday was UNREAL.

Struggling to find what shoe works for you? Or need help with @hyroxworld prep? DM me and we will take care of you.

Last week… we had ourselves a Friday night.

This Boston community is something else. Filled with straight-up savages.

Big shoutout to @thecoachgriff , @heroesboston , and @crossfittilt for collaborating on this event.

It’s a blessing that I get to keep doing what puts a smile on my face… shoes and doing hard shit with good people.

Massive thank you to @reebok for taking care of us and kitting the crew with the Nano X5 Edge to hold us down through this crazy workout.

More to come 🤫🤫

track hyrox workout 🏋🏻‍♀️💪🏽🔥

YA GIRL WAS HUMBLED by @train_m3thod @sal__martinez this past Saturday. 54 minutes nonstop!!!! It truly does feel like such better prep to run on a track vs. on a treadmill. If you’re racing for hyrox for the first time I’d highly highly recommend you do something like this at least a handful of times before race day.

Complete each for 3 rounds, you have max 6 minutes to complete each round (54 minutes total) 🔥

-700m run
-30m farmers carry
-rest until minute 6
-repeat 3 rounds

straight into:

-700m run
-30 sandbag lunges
-rest until minute 6
-repeat 3 rounds

straight into:

-700m run
-30 wall balls
-rest until minute 6
-repeat 3 rounds

Double session rotation:

Session 1 | Interval Run @saucony Endorphin Pro (rapidly becoming my #1 race day pick)

-8 x 800m @ 4:00/km pace (1:00 rest)
-Before Set 5: 80m Burpee Broad Jump

Fueled up post-run with @everydayathlete.co , then switched gear for the strength piece.

Session 2 | Lower Body Strength & conditioning @adidastraining Dropset 4 (needed that low, flat stability for heavy loading)

4 Rounds (For Quality):
-12 DB Bulgarian Split Squats / leg
-12 Single-Leg DB RDLs / leg
-8 Bodyweight Cossack Squats / leg

Into 10 Rounds (3:00 Work / 2:00 Rest):

-20 Cal Erg Bike (supposed to be assault bike but it wasn’t available)
-30m Burpee Broad Jump
-Max Wall Balls @ 30lbs in remaining time

The Coach + Engineer Take:

Too often I see athletes using one shoe for everything. A high-stack plated running shoe has no business under a heavy split squat, and a flat lifting shoe will ruin your running mechanics.

Right tool for the right job.

As a footwear engineer and @hyroxworld coach, I see how much performance (and injury risk) comes down to what’s on your feet. If you’re not sure how to build a shoe rotation that matches your training volume, drop a comment or hit my DMs.
