Second visit to @grillworksuk 📍 Granby Street I tried:

• Chicken Burger Combo £10.49
Chicken fillet burger, 2 tenders, 2 wings, fries and a drink

Really enjoyed the combo. The sauce on the chicken was addictive and the seasoning was really nice, especially with some mayo. The tenders and wings were good too, and the fries were crispy. Only thing I’d say is I wish the chicken fillet in the burger was a little bigger because I wanted more of it 😋

• Loaded Nashville Fries £6.99

Had to try these again and this time they came with the coleslaw, which was a great addition. It adds some colour to the fries and makes them look a lot more appealing. The fries were crispy and I loved the Nashville chicken, although it was definitely on the sweeter side and started to get a bit too sweet the more I ate. The pickles were a really good addition though, cutting through the sweetness and helping to cleanse the palate. The portion is massive too, I only managed half! Great value for a nice hot pizza with salty pepperoni and plenty of melted cheese. Loaded Fries £6.99

Massive portion of fries covered in their house sauce and mayo, topped with pickles and really flavourful Nashville chicken. It comes in a whole lasagne tray. I was so hungry as well but still only managed half 😭

Only thing was mine didn’t come with the house slaw like advertised. Would’ve been nice to have that for a bit of an acidic contrast and some extra crunch, especially since the fries did lose some crispiness with all the sauce.

Still tasted amazing though!

Angry Bull Burger meal £10.50

If you’re serious about smoky, slow-cooked BBQ, Joey’s Smokehouse delivers a proper feast.

The Loaded BBQ Platter (£100) featured brisket, pulled beef, tender short rib, sticky burnt ends, smoked chicken, Texas links, chicken tenders, a cheeseburger, lamb chops and three sides. It was listed as serving 2–3 people but easily fed four of us. We also upgraded one side to creamy mac & cheese for just £1 extra.

The Pitmaster Platter (£75) included brisket, pulled beef, short rib, smoked chicken and Texas links. It was advertised as serving two people and would comfortably feed three. However, I believe the lamb chops were missing from both platters.

The brisket was tender and falling apart 🤤. I can see why Joey’s Smokehouse calls itself the home of UK tenderism, although I felt it could have used a little more flavour. The short rib and pulled beef, on the other hand, were extraordinary. I was seriously impressed, and the BBQ sauce made them even better.

We also tucked into the brisket birria tacos (£12), packed with smoky beef in perfectly toasted tortillas, and a crispy chopped chicken sando (£12). The Angus short rib (£24) was my personal favourite. Even the brisket loaded mac and cheese was to die for!

The food delivered serious BBQ comfort, with the Loaded BBQ Platter standing out as the highlight.

The service was incredible from start to finish. When we arrived, our waiter apologised that our table wasn’t ready, even though we were still deciding what to order, and kindly gave us complimentary drinks while we waited.

We were a large group and chose to pay separately, but he went above and beyond to make everything easier and was happy to offer suggestions. We were also celebrating my nephew’s birthday, and the team brought out a delicious cake for him.

Rating: 8.8/10 🔥

Nashville Stack Sando 🌶️🍗🥪 - £11.95

Really tasty overall - the Nashville sauce gave it a nice bit of spice, while the pickles added a good crunch. The bread was perfectly toasted and the two strips of Nashville chicken were generous, with a good balance of flavours throughout.

Presentation was good, although I wish they had cut the paper in half as it was quite messy to take out of the box.

I took advantage of the buy one main, get the second for £1 offer, which made it much better value. Just worth noting that it’s £9.95 on Instagram but £11.95 in-store. Review of @afrikanakitchen 📍 Charles Street

Afrikana definitely knows how to pack flavour into every dish 👀

Tried the Chicken Date (£13.95) which was savoury, sweet and had honey coming through throughout, although it was a little too sweet for me.

The Fried Chicken Is Life (£16.95) was really succulent with a great aroma, while the Loaded Mac N Cheese Beef (£9.95) had plenty of beef and some proper cheese pulls 🧀🔥 The Mac was slightly oily, though.

That’s A Wrap (£11.95) was probably my favourite. Generous amount of chicken, great sauce and loads of flavour. Would definitely order again. The Butterfly Bun (£13.95) had great flavour but was slightly chewy.

The loaded fries were easily enough for a meal on their own, and all the dishes came with their paired side. The chips were really good too.

Service was good, with the waiter regularly checking on us. There was only a slight delay getting the bill, but nothing major.

Review of @andkith_cafe 📍 Granby Street

The NYC banana pudding was amazing! You can really taste the fresh bananas, and the layer of sweet cream with the banana bread works so well together. It’s surprisingly light too, so it’s not sickly. 🌟 Buffalo Tenders — 6 piece £5.99
🌟 BBQ Tender Meal — 6 piece £8.99

Unreal portion sizes! 😮‍💨Not only do you get 6 tenders, but they’re massive and definitely filled me up. Even the portion of chips was easily big enough for two people!

And the best part? The huge portions don’t compromise the taste at all. The chicken was amazing, and the BBQ sauce was drizzled over the tenders rather than coating them completely, so they still kept that satisfying crunch.

The Buffalo tenders were also really good if you like a bit of 🌶️

£10 for this much food? Ragin Bird’s lunch deal is definitely worth trying.

📍 Ragin Bird, Maidstone Road

The £10 Lunch Box includes:

🍔 Chicken fillet burger
🍗 2 chicken tenders
🍟 Chips
🥤 Drink

Available 12pm to 4pm.

I went for the Honey Buffalo, while the others chose Nashville Medium. Both flavours were amazing. The Honey Buffalo is more saucy with the perfect mix of sweet and spicy, while the Nashville Medium is more of a flavourful spice rub with a nice kick.

The chicken was juicy, crispy and packed with flavour, and the portion size makes this one of the best value lunch deals around.

Rating: 9/10. Definitely worth trying if you’re a fried chicken fan.

We took advantage of the Student Buy One Get One Free deal, which made it good value for brunch.

💰 What we ordered:
• 2 × Waffle Royale £14.60
• 2 × Lotus French Toast £11.40

🥞 Waffle Royale:
• 3 waffle squares
• 2 spicy beef or spicy chicken sausages (we chose the spicy chicken)
• 2 beef rashers
• A choice of scrambled, poached or fried eggs (we chose poached)
• Mini hash browns
• Mushrooms
• Baked beans and cherry tomatoes

The highlight of the plate was definitely the spicy chicken sausages. They were full of flavour, had a nice kick to them and were the only part of the meal that arrived warm.
Unfortunately, everything else, including the waffles, hash browns and poached eggs, was cold by the time it reached the table. The hash browns actually tasted really nice and I was pleasantly surprised by the mushrooms too, but I think both would have been much better if they’d been served hot. The waffles were soft but also felt slightly undercooked, which was a bit disappointing.

🍞 Lotus French Toast

The Lotus French Toast was really nice, sweet and full of Lotus flavour. If you prefer sweeter brunch options, I’d definitely recommend trying it.

🕒 Service & Atmosphere

It took around 20 minutes before someone came over to take our order, then another 20 minutes for the food to arrive. Once we’d finished eating, no one came over to check how the meal was or see if we needed anything else. It would have been nice to have a quick check-in, as it makes the overall dining experience feel a bit more attentive.
⭐ Overall

The Student Buy One Get One Free deal makes this a good-value brunch spot, and there were definitely some positives, especially the spicy chicken sausages, the Lotus French Toast and the beautiful interior. However, the experience was let down by most of the hot food being served cold and the service feeling a little slow. With a few improvements, I think it could be a much better experience.

Kinder Krunch Kake £9.50 🌟

Cookie Pudding £6

The Krunch Kake was delightful. It was served at the perfect temperature, warm enough for the chocolate to melt while still keeping the crunch intact. The contrast between the crunchy topping and the moist chocolate cake created an amazing combination of textures.

The Kinder Krunch Kake was just as good, with the extra sweetness from the Kinder chocolate taking it to another level. If you have a sweet tooth, this is definitely one to try.

The Cookie Pudding was a cold dessert made with cookie pieces, cream and chocolate. It had a lovely balance of flavours and temperatures, with the crunchy cookie bits contrasting nicely with the soft, creamy texture.

I had a half Mary’s Pepperoni and half Hangover (doner) pizza.

Having it fresh in-store was amazing. The crust had the perfect crisp, the cheese was melted perfectly, and you can tell the toppings are high quality. There was around a 10–15 minute wait, but it was definitely worth it.
