From a very early age, I was brought up in the Lord. My grandparents loved the Lord. They taught me scripture, how to give, how to pray, and more. I recently found out that even on my dad’s side of the family, they used to put on revival meetings and write hymns to the Lord. How awesome is that?

In my family, I was known for saying the words “God knows.” Sometimes jokingly, but sometimes because God really knew.

Beyond high school, even going back to middle school and earlier, I experienced things that were outside of God’s will. My whole life, the devil had sought to attack me with homosexuality. I saw and heard things no child should ever experience. From elementary school through high school, things were imparted to me, pornography, abuse, seduction. They were normal. Never spoken about, but normal.

It wasn’t until high school that these things started to take a toll on my identity and who I was within. I had never really battled with that until my senior year.

Let me also mention that I used to smoke and drink, and I had some experiences with psychedelics. I could say I used those to medicate and suppress what I was feeling, but that wouldn’t be true. I was trying to have fun. But there was one time I chose to do a specific drug, and my mind was altered. After that experience, everything I talked about earlier came to the forefront of my emotions and my identity.

My heart felt frozen. My soul felt stuck between spirit and flesh. I kept asking, “Why do I feel this way when I don’t want to feel this way? Why do I feel this attraction when this is not what I ever wanted?” It opened a deep wound. It led to depression and confusion. (1/3) taken in New Heights Church by @m6rk
