What a treat it was to be back in the desert the last two weeks for my 6th @bnpparibasopen 🎾

Throughout this trip I’ve done a lot of reflecting, reminiscing and reliving of the countless memories our team have shared out here at Indian Wells over the years.

As part of that reflection I’ve had time to think about my relationship with this guy right here, my boss, @mattvt.

Referring to him as just ‘my boss’ is kind of cheap - over the last 8 years, MVT (as we call him) has been much more than that - a mentor, friend, teammate, confidant, and much, much more.

Learning the news MVT has ALS this past summer was devastating for me especially, but seeing his positive attitude, desire to live unattached to outcomes, and no-nonsense approach to life has been truly inspiring.

This last week he was awarded the Bud Collins Media Award at the tournament, given to an outstanding member of the media who is crucial to the tournament, its success, and more. I couldn’t think of a more fitting person for the honor.

I’ve learned lots over the years about what it means to be and carry yourself with professionalism, how to handle different personalities and clients, when to back down and when to double down, and many more things I could go on and on about…thanks to MVT.

MVT and I have always shared an affinity for the quote “people don’t always remember what you say or even what you do, but they always remember how you made them feel.”

Anyone who has ever crossed paths with MVT can certainly relate. I’m glad we got to share moments of laughter, joy, tears and more this year. Cheers to you, MVT!
