#tbt to the day we got my dog #Belle, who was probably the greatest pup of all time. #goldenretriever #puppy #instadogs #January #1993 #red #family #love by @m_newt18

It's in the last moments you think most about the first.
We adopted Elle with the help of @katherinezegreat 3 1/2 years ago from a golden rescue. She was a former winning show dog whose original owners no longer felt a "need" for her. We soon realized several of her quirks and would adapt, whether it be her anxiety with cars or the fun ones i.e. trying to pet us back. She was always wanting her humans, tiny plush toys, and whatever food she could find.
She quickly became our big ole baby girl, and has been the sweetest dog imaginable.
For the last couple weeks, she had been having stomach issues -- something she was no stranger to -- but these ones had differences. She had been in and out of the vet, and we finally thought we found relief with the help of Hope for Paws. However, she would take a turn for the worst around 2am yesterday after going to bed seemingly on the ups. She began vomiting, then had blood coming out elsewhere. 12 hours after it began, we had to make that decision to no longer have her living in pain as the only help we could have had wouldn't come for days, and it wouldn't have been in time for her needs.
3pm yesterday, our beautiful golden girl closed her eyes for the last time with us holding onto her through the end.
We will miss her far beyond this chapter of needing to accept her passing, but are grateful to have been blessed with her at all.
Rest well, sweet girl.
