It's that time of year again. Monterey Car Week never disappoints with the amount of cool cars you can't see anywhere else. These are only a small handful of pics from Pre Reunion at @weathertechraceway on Saturday. Seeing all those classic cars, as well as Can-Am and IMSA race cars ripping through the corkscrew was truly unforgettable. More pics will be coming very soon (assuming I find the time to edit them haha).

Car makers love calling their cars "F1 cars for the road" because they stuck a few components that are somewhat similar to the ones on their F1 cars onto their road cars. The @astonmartin Valkyrie, however, is literally designed from the ground up to be an F1 car for the road with engineering know-how from the likes of Adrian Newey. The result is one of the wildest hypercars to ever exist...

The iPhone was seen as the paragon of phone designs in the early 2010s. It looked simple, yet sleek; compared to other mobile phones on the market, it looked like a fashionable tech item rather than a simple device. This being culminated in the best looking iPhone of all time: the iPhone 4S. But with subsequent iPhone designs starting with the 6, the sleek designs were sacrificed in favour of boring, ugly, impractical (I'm looking at you new iPhones with the thick camera lens), and downright stupid designs (RIP aux port).

The Audi R8 then, is a lot like the iPhone 4S. The design is full of simple lines, and yet it looks as sleek as a modern skyscraper and has aged like a fine wine. It's not even the most advanced supercar of it's era, but the sleek design, and its association with Iron Man, made it one of the most "futuristic" supercars of its era. It's successor, however, did away with that sleekness in favour of a generic and rather boring design that looked neither sleek nor stylish.

The Italians are world renowned for their designs. Whether it be architecture or fashion, their designs have a flair and soul to them that have an unmatched evocative charm. Their cars are no exception.

Italian cars have designs that have charisma oozing from every line on their surface. They can be sporty and sexy, or elegant and charming, but always beautiful. This Lancia Fulvia for example, is the latter.

The Italians have a saying called "la dolce vita" meaning "joy of life". That is the philosophy behind a car like this. It's no Ferrari 250, but rather a simple roadster designed for driving down the Amalfi Coast, enjoying the fresh Mediterranean air, on the way to a beautiful seaside restaurant on a weekend. It's a car designed for the joy of life, driving, and machine.

Going to Big Sur during Car Week is always a cathartic experience. The moment you pull onto Highway 1, you immediately see the cars from your bedroom posters and favourite racing games driving alongside you, giving you an adrenaline rush from merely being in their presence. But once you pull over to the side of the road to stare at the seemingly endless vivid blue water crashing alongside the rocky cliffs of the Pacific coast, you realise how gorgeous a place you happen to be in.

Perfection is an asymptotic quality. It's the goal of every carmaker to make the perfect sports car, but none have yet managed. But many have come close, none more so perhaps, than BMW with the E92 M3. Its got enough power to level a medium sized mountain, it looks as smart and mature as the bankers that buy them, and the driving dynamics are as balanced as meditating monk. But although this sounds like the recipe for a perfect car, it's let down ever so slightly by the fact that it's S65 had some reliability issues with failing rod bearings and throttle actuators. But despite that, its still well loved by car enthusiasts and arguably enjoys more popularity than all of its successors and predecessors (other than the E46 perhaps).
