Today I lost one of the most special people in my life. No social media post could ever fully encapsulate the heartbreak and grief of losing your father, but I hope that by putting these words out into the universe in some form, they will find him.

Dad,

When I think of you, I think of your strength, your dedication, your courage, your resilience, and most importantly, your love for our family and your friends. My entire life, I have admired you for these qualities, and you will always be my inspiration to do great things and be a good person who does the right thing, no matter what. You have made so many sacrifices for our family, from uprooting your life from China to the US to give us a good life, to starting a new career in this country and working hard as a nurse for over a decade, and fighting leukemia the past few years. You've fought long and hard through the roadblocks you've encountered. Even though I'll miss you for the rest of my life, I'm glad you can finally rest easy now. You're the best man I know, and no one could ever measure up to you. You deserved so much better than this ending, and I pray that in your next lifetime, you get so much more than you thought imaginable. I'm grateful to have had almost 25 years with you and so many wonderful memories. Thank you for being the best dad a girl could ever dream of, I'll never forget that.

"Love"

A few months before my dad passed away, I asked him if he could design a tattoo for me so I could have something personal to remember him by forever. Something to know about my dad is that he was initially was VERY against it when I first started getting tattoos, but he was thoughtful enough to spend the time to design a tattoo for me anyway. He took the Chinese character for "love" and incorporated the first initials of mine, my mom, and sister's names and a heart (and if you look at it a certain way, you can see an X for Xiao in there too). It's more than just a tattoo to me, it's a symbol of his enduring love for me and our family. I asked @shuuinn to turn it into a Chinese knot charm, a symbol of good luck, prosperity, and harmony, and it couldn't be more perfect. Thank you Kiki for your beautiful work ❤️ by @m_zhong25

Happy anniversary to my person.
