Yasujiro Ozu: December 12, 1903 - December 12, 1963

December 12; a special 24 hours. The day Yasujiro Ozu—a legendary Japanese filmmaker who was prominent during his country’s ’golden era’, was both welcomed and said farewell to by the world on the same day.

Whether he spoke through monochromic melodrama or radiant nostalgia, Ozu always had a stance on family dynamics and everyday problems amongst the common.

To depart on your birthday is the most Ozu way to depart—simplistic melancholy.

His life was temporary, but his presence is eternal through his art. The essence is in his films now and I hold it dearly. by @maarijmuhammad_
