That’s a wrap on Mac In Your City 2026! This year, Mac alumni hosted over forty events across the globe, meeting up in cafes, parks, art galleries, and their own homes to meet new friends, reconnect with classmates, and share their Macalester spirit.

Thank you to all our hosts and to everyone who attended. Remember: there’s a little bit of Mac wherever you are!

Sheila Nabanja, class of 2006, originally came to Mac from Kampala, Uganda, and now lives in the San Francisco Bay Area. She is on the leadership team of Musizi University, Uganda’s first African-centered liberal arts university. Musizi is designed to develop ethical, entrepreneurial leaders equipped to transform their communities and economies, reimagining higher education from the ground up to meet the needs of one of the youngest populations in the world.

Of her time at Mac, Sheila says: "I loved my Physics professor, James Heyman, but one of my favorite classes was Quantum Mechanics. Even though I earned a B+, I don’t think any course ever broke my brain — and rebuilt it — as often as that one did.

“Some of my fondest memories, though, are of Alumni Weekend. I remember watching graduates return to campus for their 20th reunion and thinking, Twenty years? How old is that?" Sheila said the irony isn’t lost on her, as she just helped plan her 20th reunion this June.

Outside of her career and work with Musizi, Sheila treasures time with her circle of deeply loved people. She feels most at home in the mountains, on a dance floor, or at a live music show

Kiante Miles, class of 2020, came to Macalester from his hometown of Mustang, Oklahoma. He currently works remotely as a data engineer near Denver, Colorado.

His favorite class at Macalester was Exploration of Race and Racism in the US, with Prof. Duchess Harris. All the snowy offseason football games he played in various fields on campus are now favorite memories of his.

Outside of work, Kiante keeps busy with traveling and other hobbies: “I enjoy writing poetry, and am lucky enough to be able to travel to perform some of my work for different projects. I love traveling not for work and learning new things about different countries and cultures. I also enjoy catching a good movie at my local movie theater.”

Julia Eshaghpour and Kevin Hollidge, both class of 2017, shared how collaborating on projects while students at Macalester has led to a decade of work together developing their own artistic language:

“Chris Willcox was a memorable professor to both of us. We took a mural class with her, where we painted the walls of Janet Wallace. This class laid the foundation for mural projects we now do for our profession!”

“Another fond memory at Macalester was our first collaboration together in the spring of senior year. We put on an exhibition called “Skepticism & Faith” in the student gallery. It was a site-specific installation where we built a framed out white box housing a small palm tree, which connected to a miniature version on a raised, second level. It was the first of many late nights working together.”

In 2021, Julia and Kevin founded the decorative and fine arts studio Sunfish, where they produce made-to-order furniture, private commissions, exhibitions, and spatial projects.
