Sunday brunch followed by *The Odyssey* 🎬 w/ our lovely and fabulous friend Sumita! Brunch at L’Adresse nomad was 😋!

On The Odyssey: Objectively good movie, though I can't stop thinking about it — partly the performances, partly my lifelong obsession with Greek mythology.

Some thoughts:
- Wish they'd let Tom speak in his own British accent instead of Peter Parker voice
- Not sure stripping out the story's fantastical elements did it justice
- The women were underwritten — Lupita's Helen was scarred with zero explanation given. This bugged me.
- Third act leaned hard into Dark Knight Rises territory, style and pacing.

On the upside: the acting was strong, and it's a genuine technical achievement. Matt, Anne Hathaway, and the Circe actress carried a lot of weight.

Someone pointed out the movie was strangely sexless — and honestly, that tracks with a lot of Nolan's filmography. Omitting that felt like a missed choice here too.

Overall: a good movie. I'm still turning over the themes days later. Now, I’ll have to revisit the original. 🏛️ taken in New York, New York by @macassarrose

Semi-retired white speedos took a little jaunt through Long Island last weekend — stayed at a small beach hotel in Jamesport. Won’t tag them, can’t quite say I’d recommend it. Our room was huge, but the bathroom was a little worse for wear. Off the beaten path in Seattle, we stumbled into pure luck. 🚂⚙️

We’d heard about the Georgetown Steam Plant tucked along the Duwamish River — an industrial relic most visitors (and even a lot of locals) never make it to. Turns out it’s only open to the public one day a month, and somehow we landed on exactly that Saturday.

Built in 1906–1907 by the Seattle Electric Company, this place once powered Seattle’s electric streetcars and the Seattle-to-Tacoma Interurban line, back when the city was booming and hungry for energy. Its two vertical Curtis turbines are the last of their kind still standing in the world — cutting-edge tech in their day that helped prove steam turbines could outperform anything else on the market. The plant kept running (mostly as backup) until it finally went dark in 1953, and was decommissioned not long after. Today it’s a National Historic Landmark and a National Historic Mechanical Engineering Landmark — 80 feet of raw, original machinery still standing exactly where it was installed over a century ago.

Walking through it felt like stepping into the guts of old Seattle — steel, steam pipes, catwalks, and a story most people drive right past without knowing it’s there. Ten days that started in Seattle and ended across the water and mountains of Alaska. My mother had wanted this trip for years — I resisted, never saw myself as a “cruise person” — but we all came together to honor my late sister’s memory, spread her ashes into the Pacific, and then take in the arresting beauty of this land. Stunning mountains, glacial lakes, rainforests, wildlife, and a culture so deeply rooted in nature and history.
