“depression can’t hit a moving target”
so when my surgeon told me it would be months before i’d be walking again, reality hit pretty quickly… december last year, i kooked a skydive landing, resulting in a few decent breaks in my tibia and a destroyed acl. i spent the better part of three months learning to walk again, and although the physical aspects of the injury and recovery were pretty grim, the hardest part was without a doubt the changes and isolation that followed.
going from living a pretty fast-paced lifestyle to suddenly being robbed of my independence and much of my sense of identity was an adjustment i could have never prepared for.
to say i’m grateful for the people who showed up for me during that time would be an understatement. throughout the experience, i truly learned the importance of community and what it means to show up for the people around you. i hope i can take what my people gave me during that time and carry it into how i show up for others.
as challenging as that time was, being forced to slow down gave me a lot of time to reflect, reevaluate and realign my values and goals, and decide where i want to focus my energy moving forward. sooo now that i’m back to a more me version of me, may the comeback be bigger than the setback 🙏 (oh and if ur reading this please check up on your injured friends…!) taken in Australia by @macaylamaee
