Join us for an artist talk with Sofie Mart and Enrico Viola at the Machine Arts Kiosk on the Sep 26 at 7pm ✦

At the Machine Arts Kiosk exhibition, Sofie and Enrico will present their project Resonance.

Resonance is a real-time machine drawing performance in which a plotter translates the sound of a playing record into a drawing produced directly on its label. The system synchronises several temporal layers at once: the rhythm and dynamics of the music, the movement of the drawing machine, the accumulation of marks, and the continuous rotation of the record itself. Rather than treating the plotter as a standalone tool, the work combines it with the turntable as a second mechanical system, creating a hybrid instrument whose behaviour emerges from their interaction. Each drawing is generated live and remains specific to the record, the music, and the duration of the performance. Designed as a site-specific public interaction, Resonance invites visitors to select a record, play it, and leave with a machine-drawn label produced in response to that moment.

Join us for Philipp Lehmann’s artist talk at the Machine Arts Kiosk on the Sep 24 at 7pm ✦

Philipp Lehmann spent a decade sharpening his design skills at studios in Winterthur, Vienna and Zurich before teaching what he’d learned at ZHdK and SfGBB. Since 2018 he’s channeled all of it into Redefine, his own design studio. Curious by nature, he finds the approach that fits each project’s individual needs. Hands-on from the first sketch and prototypes to the final product, he loves the beauty of a good design system, the delightful details and the aspects of generative design. He is fascinated by how intricate patterns often arise from a surprisingly elegant logic.

At the Machine Arts Kiosk exhibition Philipp is presenting his project Photoplotter.

Join us for Armin Aschenbrenner’s artist talk at the Machine Arts Kiosk on the Sep 19 at 7pm ✦

Armin Aschenbrenner is a Moroccan–Austrian artist and computational designer. His practice, which he describes as “phygital artisanship”, explores how co-creating with intelligent machines affects the craft of architecture. Through software programming and digital fabrication, he constructs generative systems and interactive installations that produce machine-assisted drawings and sculptures. Aschenbrenner has received the City of Zurich Förderbeitrag Digitale Künste 2025 and the ZHdK Förderpreis Design 2024.

At the Machine Arts Kiosk exhibition Armin is presenting his project ZIGGURAT.

#EXHIBITION Extrafaces is a design and fabrication workshop asking one question: What can human collective intelligence produce when AI is in the room? Taking Charles and Ray Eames’ slot card game “House of Cards” as its starting point, participants design individual flat components within a shared connection system, working simultaneously across three scales: the single part, its pattern and the aggregate.

#GUIDED TOUR #TALK Machine Arts Kiosk is a group exhibition that brings the spirit of the street kiosk into the world of robotic making. Where a traditional kiosk peddles postcards, trinkets, and small curiosities, this one produces them by machine: drawings, prints, and collectible objects generated live by algorithms and made by mechanical systems.

We are excited to announce our next Machine Arts Group talk with Patricia Alves-Oliveira, on Wednesday 13.05, in Zurich!

Patricia is an Assistant Professor of Robotics at the University of Michigan (USA). Her research focuses on robot design, human-robot interaction, and human-centered embodied AI.

Patricia leads the Robot Studio, an interdisciplinary research group exploring how robots can participate in everyday human experiences through thoughtful design and interaction. They explore assistive robotics and socially embedded systems – from robots that foster creative expression, to systems that facilitate inclusive social gathering experiences.

Patricia advises Meta on critical issues for AI, and currently is an academic guest at ETH Zürich.

The first VF Keynote of 2026 – Between Humans and Machines: Making Meaning Through Digital Craft 🤖

When machines can make almost anything, where does meaning come from – and what is left for humans to do?

Join us on January 20 as Sofie Mart (@sofiem.art) and Armin Aschenbrenner (@armin.aschenbrenner) of the Zürich-based Machine Arts Group (@machineartsgroup) explore how digital craft creates meaning through hands-on collaboration between humans, machines, and materials. Working with embodied AI, robotics, and physical materials, they show how making can become a dialogue – and why that matters in an age of endless AI output. 🤖

Making today isn’t just about output. It’s about care, experimentation, and finding meaning through practice.

What will you learn?
🛠️ Why the gap between code and material is a creative opportunity
🛠️ Why making meaning matters more than producing more
🛠️ How hands-on, DIY practices help reclaim creative agency in the age of AI
🛠️ How digital craft becomes a dialogue between humans, machines, and materials
