Significantly overestimated how much greenery I can render while not losing my sanity😭

Just finished planning out the background today and it finally hit me that I have a gargantuan task upcoming for my drawing 💀

I’ll do my best to be lazy (so to speak) and not render so many tiny details but idk how that’ll go because I love rendering details. Unfortunately it’s just too much this time🫩

“The Harbinger of the Tempest”

I’m so happy that I’ve finally finished this drawing!!!

Original inspiration to draw a mermaid came from a story request box I did eons ago in I think late January or early February (wow does this bring back memories, I had just barely started posting on this art account at that time 😆)!

So yeah I’ve been considering this topic for a while lol. But I was never satisfied with the ideas I came up with, and hence I shelved the project… Until I came up with this title! As with “Thinking of You” the drawing came rather naturally after the title did.

I’m particularly pleased with how the hair turned out, and the colors came out nicely too! I even surprised myself with the background 🤣

In any case, I’ve got to start thinking about the next project… I’ve got several ideas but no good references so I have to make more drafts to figure things out!

“Thinking of You”

I’m so happy I’ve finally finished this project! To be honest, with how “loosely” this is rendered, I thought it’d take less time, but whatever.

On to a few details about the creation of this piece. This drawing was inspired by bits and pieces of childhood memories - in particular, the way the sunlight would filter in through the windows and wash over the walls and floors, and past friends.

It was so hard to capture the atmosphere properly… too “concrete” rendering would make the painting seem stiff and lifeless, too hazy and it’s not what I like artistically. The colors were also a pain to find because nothing quite ever felt like that type of sunlight I wanted, though in the end I guess I managed to get something close to what I remember.

All in all I’m happy with the way it turned out! I’m having a tough time thinking of a topic for the next drawing, but we’ll see how that goes once I make more sketches.

“Spring”

After almost two months of work, I’ve finally finished this painting!!! I think this is the drawing that took me the longest amount of time thus far to complete 😆
I’m really happy with the way it looks, though!

The only downside of the whole process is that the greyscale to color part took me way too long to figure out. Maybe I’ll try it again eventually (after all you can’t improve at something without giving it at least a few tries) but for the results I got it seemed to have taken me a bit too long to be efficient…

For now the pressing issue is to start my next “formal” main project - I’ve got several ideas in hand but I’m not sure which one I’ll take. It all depends on how well their sketches go.
In any case, I hope you all like this drawing as well!

“The Confidant”
con·fi·dant - a person with whom one shares a secret or private matter, trusting them not to repeat it to others…
This confidant here is a bit special, though! 💖

After more than a month... I’m finally done with this drawing!!!!!!!! On one hand, I’m really glad to have it over with so I can free up my hands for new art projects, but on the other hand, I’m always a bit sad to let a painting go. There’s also a bit of the ‘this could be better’ element tossed in the salad but hey, everything needs to end at some point. Hope you guys like this one!

Whew, finally done with this painting! Close up on second slide.

Though it’s not particularly refined I do think it looks great, and I experimented with a couple of different elements as well. As a transitory “relaxing” piece I think it’s served its purpose well.

Took me more time than I needed because, well, life, but I’m going to start work on the next drawing now!

…Is it sunrise or sunset… and is it regret?…

First image is a somewhat color adjusted version and second image was the original. Let me know which one you prefer!

After more than a month of work, it’s finally finished!!!!!
The background was a fair bit harder to complete than I’d anticipated, but at least it’s done and looks (to me) pretty good! It all took me way longer than it should’ve because I’ve been really busy with other matters - Summers are more chaotic than the rest of the year for whatever reason.

I’ve started planning out the next drawings though! I’ll release the speedpaint for this drawing in a day or two probably.

First of all… thank you all so much for 1k followers!!! Still kinda hard to believe I’m already at this milestone??? Ngl I’m not sure what to do as a celebration… if anyone is interested in one???? lmk if you have anything you want me to do bc I’m clueless😅

Onto this drawing - it was inspired by the quote: “He who fights with monsters should be careful, lest he thereby become a monster.”
I always thought it was dragons instead of monsters but apparently dragons is a mistranslation. But in any case I did my best to make the eyes a bit less human-looking, if that makes sense?
I originally intended this piece to be kind of a quick fun thing but uhhhh you all can see how long it took me 🤣 I’m planning on starting a side project / series to get some more “fun” drawing in my life, we’ll see how that all goes.

PS I wanted to put some of coo:ya’s music as the bg but it’s not available in the music selection… 😭 why is the music library missing like… all of my fav songs

Aaaaaa I can’t believe I’m finally finished this drawing!!!!

I’ve lost count of how much time I’ve spent on this. My rough estimate is about 20-22 hours - that’s more than double the time I usually spend on each drawing.

Slide 2 is a closeup of the finished result. Slide 3 is a failed rendering of the hair. Including this here because I do mess up, and things often don’t work out 🤣

Other slides are more process vids. Including them here because the compressed speedpaint goes by way too quickly to see anything clearly.

I’ll post the speedpaint tomorrow and try to post a simple rendering tutorial the day after bc I think some people might be interested.

Onto some details about the creation of this drawing. I started the sketches I think at some point in early winter. I don’t remember the details. I just remember I was feeling quite glum when I came up with the idea for this.

For a long period of time I didn’t feel like working on it because I wasn’t sure how I should proceed. I absolutely needed to keep that initial feeling of dullness and quiet melancholy, and I really liked the facial expression in the sketch. But it was so scratchy that I genuinely could not figure out how to retain both the emotion and make the drawing smoother, somehow.

Later it got to a point where I finally sat down and I was like, I’ll just do this. I was kind of drawing in whatever way because I wasn’t sure what to do. It was only midway through shading the face that everything kind of clicked. I don’t usually render like how I did in this drawing, but it ended up working really well. I think all of the thinking cumulated into that moment.

Drawing makes me happy.

To give you all a bit of a temporary break from my posts about my other painting, here’s my drawing inspired by the music video / animation for Orange Lounge’s song “Marmalade Reverie”! If you check the video out (I think it’s not even 2 minutes long) you’ll see that my background here is based off one of their backgrounds in a scene. Again there are several versions of this song, all of them sound great.

This was more of a “fun” drawing so it’s a lot looser and less detailed/refined than my other stuff… but that’s kind of the whole purpose. Detailed rendering can be pretty stressful at times. Once in a while I need to relax a little too!

Second slide is a screenshot from the video itself so that you can see what the characters look like. I think it’s from beatmania IIDX from a brief search online but if I’m wrong please do let me know in the comments!!!

Anyways I’ll be back to posting about my main work tomorrow (so don’t worry about me dropping it lol). I work slowly but if I’m sure I want to finish something I will 100% do it no matter how difficult it gets lol

Directly inspired by Orange Lounge’s “Love is Orange”. There are multiple variants of the song, but my favourite is absolutely the Marble Version. It was also the version I looped while I was drawing this. There’s something about that particular version that deeply appeals to me. Not sure exactly what it is but it’s definitely one of my favourite songs (even just generally speaking) right now. I feel so sad that the audio isn’t on this app (not even the other variants of this song or just any Orange Lounge songs either?!?!!) so unfortunately I can’t put the audio here for you all to enjoy but I would really highly recommend giving it and the whole album a listen if you have the time!
Anyways on another note, I ended up doing a final adjustment on the piece to make the subject pop out a bit more. Second slide is a closeup of the expression (which I’m pretty proud of, looks pretty good to me) and the third slide is the drawing, pre-adjustment! #digitalart #digitalartist #digitalpainting by @machinexepsilon

This has got to be one of the fastest colored drawings I’ve ever done lol.
