Haters will say it’s ai! Here’s a lil clip of the new exhaust setup on the drift car. It’s a 6-1 header with equal length 1.5” primaries. Landed in the collector in sequential firing order. To a 3” exhaust and an old 2.5” magnaflow muffler. Planning to do 3.5” with a vibrant resonator in the near future. Couple lil blips for yas! Still waiting on itb adapter from @rabidracingdevelopment to get this new engine on the dyno. Also adding in oil pressure/temp sensor, and fuel pressure sensor. Plumbing in the accusump and oil cooler. Also getting an obd1 cam sensor installed. Exterior refresh on the drift car is mostly done. Here’s what we came up with. @sacred_crow painted the bottom side of the hood. Picked up a paint kit from @thespraysource to do the exterior. Added @cliqtuning v2 roof wing and drag spoiler. Will probably end up doing a wet sand/compound/polish in the spring to the paint as it has a good amount of orange peel in it. On deck is the new engine build. Hoping to have it on the dyno by the end of October so we can get a local event in before the season up here is over. The parts accumulation phase is over and work on the new engine will start when I’m done with painting the car. Here’s some of the changes to the setup. 13:1 pistons from @alien_engineering_bmw that accept a 138mm Honda b18c rod, @achillesmotorsports oil pan baffle, @cantonracingproducts 3qt accusump, s54 oil filter housing to work with the accusump, @hopwoodmotorsport upgraded oil pump with tensioner. Not pictured is 298/290 cat cams with alien engineering solid lifter conversion. 94# @supertechperformance valve springs with titanium retainers. Sorry boys we blew it up. Rod knocked first lap, didn’t hear it through my helmet. Puked it’s guts out 2nd lap. It rod knocked due to oil starvation. Contributing factors were it happened in turn 3 which is a hard right and is after a big straight with sustained high rpm. My guess is the pan had a low level from the straight (high rpm for a long period) and the oil was still up in the head. Coupled with the hard right hand turn moved the oil in the pan away from the pickup tube causing the oil pump to suck in air at 8000+ rpm. The plan with the new engine is to install an accusump for any weird oiling situations like this. Also, dyno the new engine to 8600rpm and then for the first couple of events only rev it to 8100 and move a little higher after monitoring logs. I’m definitely glad this happened on the old stock bottom end engine, I’d rather learn these lessons on the cheap setup. We’ll be back as soon as the pistons show up for the new engine. Took @sosa_foto for a ride and broke an axle at the end. Going to soften up my clutch delay valve to give the drivetrain more of a fighting chance. Fun fact, this is my first broken axle in 8 years of drifting this car. Ok story time. Last July, I lost oil pressure in the old engine. Completely my fault, I broke a clutch pressure plate for the 4th time and it was causing a decently bad vibration in the engine. Couldn’t figure it out so I kept driving. It backed out the oil pump bolts that hold it together and also snapped the pickup tube off. I’m currently building a high compression motor but am delayed on pistons and we have to make it to Gridlife so I decided to do a quick and dirty rebuild on the old engine. Replaced main and rod bearings with king xp coated bearings, had to replace the crank because it ate a woodruff key, did an alien engineering solid lifter conversion, added a fluidamper with 10% underdrive from fresh produce mfg, arp rod bolts, same stock b28 rods and pistons, Stewart water pump, 160 thermostat, the cams were fine so I reused my enem 280/280 cams, new oil pump and timing chains, clutch masters 7.25” twin disc clutch with tilton cdv kit from fresh produce mfg. Moral of the story, don’t be dumb like me and also probably don’t do any of this lol. Just drive a stock z. From blown up and out of the car to back in and tuned in 14 days. @brendongreaves with the full pull. Revved to the moon. Ended up making 230whp na, 250whp with nitrous. For reference a stock e36m3 makes 210whp on this same dyno. #bmw #e36 #drift #dyno #drifting by @machomanrandysanchez
