Volleyball has been a part of my life since I was 8 years old. It has brought me some of the greatest moments, and also brought me some of the worst. Over the past couple years I have struggled to find my identity outside of volleyball. I didn't know how to separate Macie as a player from Macie as a person. A good practice made my day, but a bad practice ruined my whole week, and made me question whether I was good enough to even continue playing this sport.

After reflecting on my career, I've realized I am not alone in this feeling, and that so many young athletes feel the same way. They feel the pressure to earn playing time, to keep their stats up, to never mess up. The fear that one bad game could change how you are seen. The belief that if you just perform a little better, you’ll finally feel secure. This constant striving leaves you exhausted, and chasing approval that was never enough.

I had to learn that my worth was never meant to be measured by performance or perfection, but by who I belong to.

This past season, I've gotten to play for two of the most amazing people on the planet. @torrey.miller and @getsecarrasco_ are living, breathing representations of what a follower of Christ looks like. They taught me so much of what it looks like to love the Lord God with my whole heart and what playing for Him actually looks like.

Galatians 1:10 says, “For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.” This verse proved to me that I was playing for the wrong reasons. I was building my identity on approval from coaches, teammates, and performance. I learned that my worth is not rooted in my stats or my film, but in who I am in Christ. I am a daughter of The Most High King, and that will always come first.

It’s hard to describe what it feels like to close a chapter that has shaped every part of who I am, but I’m learning to grow through it and move on to better things. I am grateful for every teammate, coach, and moment that got me here today. I can not imagine my life any other way.🤍 by @macie.lomer
