Every time I think of you, I give thanks to my God. Philippians 1:3

This past year, not a single sunrise or sunset has passed without the names of my two best friends and six campers crossing my mind. In the quiet moments, I find myself returning to the first five days of camp—the laughter echoing through Twins, dance parties and karaoke before taps, the excitement leading into each day, and the joy that seemed to live in every corner of that place. Looking back now, I realize I was seeing God’s light in those moments and in every one of those girls. His goodness was reflected in their kindness, courage, laughter, and the love they shared so freely with one another.

Then July 4th came, and my entire world flipped.

For a long time, I struggled with how something so beautiful could end in so much heartbreak. It was discouraging to doubt the God I had felt so close to only days before through my campers and camp community. But time has a way of teaching us things that grief alone cannot, and over this past year God’s grace has given me the strength to continue showing up and doing my best each day.

Joshua 1:9 says, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” July 4th will always mark our last moments of normalcy and one of the greatest losses of my life, but this year it also marks 365 days of extraordinary courage. I will forever be grateful for two incredible friends and six unbelievably brave campers who showed me God’s light so clearly and changed my life forever. 🌞🌞 by @macieurban
