One whole year with my baby 🤍This last year pushed me in ways I didn’t expect. It challenged me more than I thought it would. Some days felt really hard and some felt so easy.Watching him grow this year has been the most special thing. Not only did he grow, I was growing too. I learned more patience, more grace, and that being a mom doesn’t mean I have to have everything figured out… it just means loving him the best I can every single day.My chunky giggly boy who brings so much joy in our lives. As I enter month nine with a dwindling supply, I find myself overwhelmed with gratitude that we even have formula to fall back on. I’m one of the lucky ones, the percentage who’ve made it beyond six months. But not everyone’s journey looks the same. I can’t stop thinking about the moms who are already in one of the most vulnerable moments of their lives, doing everything they can to make the right choices for their babies… and then something like this happens, shaking their confidence when they need support the most. No mother should ever have to doubt her worth or her instincts while she’s giving everything she has.Breastfeeding is one of the most demanding, all consuming responsibilities a mother can take on. It’s physically exhausting, emotionally overwhelming, and requires constant time, energy, and support. Yet at this very moment, mothers are being told to try to exclusively breastfeed as long as possible. We’re told to provide our babies with the “best,” while being expected to return to work almost immediately! Without guaranteed paid leave, without adequate workplace accommodations, and without the time our bodies and babies need. You cannot push mothers to meet the highest standards of care while refusing to give them the basic resources to do so. Breastfeeding isn’t just a personal choice, it’s a societal investment. And until we start seeing some real changes, through paid leave, protected time, and real support, these expectations will continue to fall unfairly and impossibly on the moms shoulders. by @mackenzie_arp
