Meet the Owner!

Hi there, everyone! 👋🏻

I thought it was time for those who may not know me to know a lil bit about me!

My name is Madison Denhardt and I am the one who runs the show (quite literally, haha!). I am an instructor, employee - well, you name it! - here at the shop. If you call, I am the one to answer the phone. If you send a message to my page, I am the one who responds 😄.

Some history about me…I started my musical and entrepreneurship skills at a young age. I’ve been playing guitar since I was six years old, and teaching since age fourteen. I have an Old-Time Music certification and associate's degree in general education. Not only am I educated, but also have experience working with children and adults alike. Some honorable mentions of my work is teaching with JAM (Junior Appalachian Musician's) camp days in Galax, VA and also in Mars Hill, NC; Mountain Music School in BSG, VA; JAM programs in Wise County + Virtual; and teaching privately for the past few years from my home, students' homes, and at one point, my church's fellowship hall. I also hold some musical competition accomplishments in songwriting and guitar. I am a member of my family band, "The Childress Sisters".

As a multi-instrumentalist a lot of people ask me what my favorite instrument is, and it has to be the guitar. Music is my passion and what makes my job enjoyable. My hobbies include enjoying trips to coffee shops, taking care of my succulents, decorating my home, watching true crime documentaries, and being with my friends and family.

I am forever thankful for God giving me the ability to have this shop and getting to serve you all! Stop by and see me some time!

Happy musical trails! 😄🎶🌲

Hey everyone,

• My grandfather passed away yesterday so I will not be in the shop this week (August 14-16).

• I am preparing to play and sing for his funeral and this is a very emotional time for me so lessons will be cancelled this week as well.

• I know some folks have orders but I will contact you for pick up as soon as they come in.

• Thank you all for understanding I am a small business with a life outside of the shop. I appreciate you all and am excited to return back

(This was him last year after he came and supported
He was one of the first people to listen to
me play from the very beginning. He absolutely LOVED music 🤍. One of his favorite songs was “Stroll Over Heaven with You”. by @macmusicschool

Did you know you can use gift cards for everything here at Mac Music?! 🎶

These are an ideal, easy way for giving the gift of paying for someone’s music lessons, giving them money to spend towards an instrument, cleaning, or even repair! 🎁

This holiday season is the perfect time to add this as a stocking stuffer or just a gift itself! 🎄❤️

As the holiday season is quickly approaching and so are some student activities, so I have a LOT of things to catch up on and unfortunately need to close the shop this week. HOWEVER, if you need to make an appointment, please feel free to give me a message or call.

Thank you all SO MUCH for keeping me so busy! I am really trying to do my best to balance it all, so I really appreciate your patience and support! 🥳

Fall is in the air and so is the award winning festival, @bluehighway_fest ! 🎶🧡🤎🤍

We are pumped to be hosting this event downtown Big Stone Gap at Miner’s Park on Thursday, October 12th starting at 5pm.

Bring a lawn chair or picnic blanket and enjoy some musical entertainment by two of our local bands! The UVA Wise Bluegrass band will bring what they’ve been working on this semester!

For the first time ever, a small group of advanced students who take lessons here at Mac Music will be performing as a band, so you don’t want to miss this!!

📣 EXCITING NEWS! 📣

After a huge successful year last year, I’m pleased to finally share this with you guys!! 🥳

Mac Music will be hosting the 2nd Annual summer camp for kiddos this summer!! 🪕🎼🎻🎤

The camp will be held at the Mac Music storefront along with some of the space provided by the Big Stone Gap Visitor Center and the Pottery Shop across the street. Camp will be held Monday-Thursday from 10am to 2pm and the final recital will be at 5:30pm on Friday, July 14th.

Students ages 6-18 can learn or enhance their skills in either acoustic guitar, claw-hammer banjo, ukulele, string band, and fiddle/violin. Lunch will be provided every day for participants. Students need their own instrument OR can choose to loan one for the camp for a small fee (instruments are limited so let me know ASAP).

Other enrichment and educational activities will be included in a class day. Not only will it be a week full of fun and learning, but also an opportunity to learn how to play with other musicians, and make new friends!

Registration Link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1-ogUVkSYCp4rgGrosOgZ-wyuMne6z2MrQ_imtuxJJ2A/edit

Limited space is available, so early registration is encouraged! Please turn registration in by June 30th.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have! 😊 taken in Big Stone Gap, Virginia by @macmusicschool

Just a PSA to let everyone know there is still a wait list even after making a few more openings and even taking on lessons on Monday afternoons.

I cannot physically accept anymore new lessons until I can find some new instructors to bring in to teach, so I will update when that ~may~ become available.

In the meantime, however, I am still trying to find some awesome musicians to come work with me!

Thank you all for your continued support and making this a wonderful place for our community and a safe place of learning music for the kiddos of this generation! 🫶🏻
