Wrapping up my undergrad with some wonderful awards! I am so proud to be named the Most Outstanding Undergraduate in Media and Communication from the ETSU College of Business and Technology as well as receiving the award for Most Outstanding Leadership from the ETSU Department of Media and Communication. I also attended my last End of Year Celebration for the East Tennessean, where I celebrated four years of serving the publication, and two years of leading it as Executive Editor. Knowing that I have represented my major well and getting to celebrate these accomplishments with so many of the people who have made my experience special will always have a place in my heart. by @macy_strader

My 4th and final TEDxETSU. It has been an honor serving as organizer, licensee, and emcee for this incredible event each year. I’m extremely lucky to have had the opportunity to find myself through the TED platform as a speaker freshman year, and I would not be who I am today if I hadn’t taken that leap towards healing and advocating for change. Returning to help other students in their journeys over the years was truly a dream job. I am so proud of all of the speakers (past and present) for working so hard to make the world a better place by sharing their ideas and supporting one another along the way. It’s been an incredible run, TED. Thank you for changing my life forever.

In my Ivy League era🩵 I am so thrilled to share that I’ve been accepted into my dream school, Columbia University, in NEW YORK CITY, as a part of the Journalism MS (Documentary Specialization) AND the Film MFA (Screenwriting and Directing Specialization). Getting into two programs and now being tasked with choosing between my life’s passions has been the most insane privilege and difficult decision of my life. I just couldn’t wait any longer to share!

Being one of just 15 students selected for the Documentary Specialization in the best Journalism School in the world is something I still can’t believe is real, and being one of only 32 selected for the same Screenwriting/Directing program that has produced numerous Oscar-winning creatives makes my elementary-aged self who begged for a camera for Christmas feel so proud! Three essays, six writing samples, 6 reference letters, 30 minutes of video samples, one interview and a 2 hour proctored, written-exam later…we’ve made it! As I do some serious soul searching, I want to express how immensely grateful I am for everyone who has supported me in my journey!!!

No way the John Green interview wasn’t making the main insta! This opportunity was a dream come true for me, and I’m so so so grateful for all those who got me in this room. John Green is one of my greatest inspirations as an author, educator, and advocate. Being one of two reporters to get to sit down with him before his keynote presentation at the Festival of Ideas was the most incredible privilege, and I’m still geeking over it! Shoutout to Savanna and Johnny, my awesome photographer/videographer duo who also represented the @easttennessean backstage!!! by @macy_strader
