🇬🇧Have you ever seen a bee’s tongue?

This is called the proboscis (or glossa) and it’s the organ bees use to drink nectar from flowers.

Most people never get to see it because it’s tiny—and usually hidden beneath the head.

🇩🇪 Hast du schon einmal die Zunge einer Biene gesehen?

Sie wird Proboscis (bzw. Glossa) genannt und ist das Organ, mit dem Bienen Nektar aus Blüten aufnehmen.

Die meisten Menschen bekommen sie nie zu Gesicht, weil sie winzig ist – und normalerweise unter dem Kopf verborgen bleibt.

As much as I love extreme macro and intricate focus stacks, some of my favourite images begin with simply stopping for a moment.

Macro photography isn’t just about technical perfection.
It’s about noticing the tiny details most people walk past. The ancient patterns nature has repeated for millions of years, and the life force you can feel within them.

For me, macro photography is just as much about composition as it is about magnification. It’s about creating a feeling. About inviting people to slow down and see beauty in the smallest, most easily overlooked parts of nature.

I hope my images can awaken this sense of wonder—a curiosity for the intricate details, the timeless forms, and the quiet poetry of nature.

You don’t need expensive gear. This image was created with the OM-5 Mark II and the M.Zuiko 30mm Macro.

So sehr ich Extremmakros und aufwendige Fokus-Stacks liebe – einige meiner Lieblingsbilder entstehen einfach dadurch, dass ich für einen Moment stehen bleibe.

Makrofotografie bedeutet für mich nicht nur technische Perfektion.
Sie bedeutet, die kleinen Dinge wahrzunehmen, an denen die meisten Menschen achtlos vorbeigehen. Die uralten Muster, die die Natur seit Millionen von Jahren immer wieder erschafft – und die Lebenskraft, die man in ihnen spüren kann.

Für mich geht es in der Makrofotografie genauso sehr um Komposition wie um Vergrößerung. Es geht darum, ein Gefühl zu vermitteln. Menschen einzuladen, innezuhalten und die Schönheit in den kleinsten, oft übersehenen Details der Natur zu entdecken.

Ich hoffe, meine Bilder können dieses Gefühl wecken: eine Neugier auf die feinen Details und das Staunen über die zeitlosen Formen und die stille Poesie der Natur.

Für dieses Bild braucht es übrigens kein teures Equipment. Es entstand mit der OM-5 Mark II und dem M.Zuiko 30mm Macro.

One thing macro photography keeps reminding me is that composition matters just as much as magnification.

Not every macro needs to fill the frame. Sometimes giving a tiny subject plenty of space tells a stronger story.

This little damselfly was barely noticeable in the meadow, but that tiny face surrounded by all that negative space immediately caught my eye. Sometimes, less really is more.

Would you have left all that negative space, or cropped in closer?

Die Makrofotografie erinnert mich immer wieder daran, dass Komposition genauso wichtig ist wie Vergrößerung.

Nicht jedes Makro muss formatfüllend sein. Manchmal erzählt ein kleines Motiv mit viel Negativraum die stärkere Geschichte.

Diese kleine Libelle war auf der Wiese fast zu übersehen. Aber genau dieses winzige Gesicht, umgeben von so viel Raum, hat mich sofort angesprochen. Manchmal ist weniger einfach mehr.

🇬🇧 Back where I belong 💚

The recovery after my surgery took much longer than I expected. For a while, even short walks felt like enough of an adventure.

But this morning I was back in the dew-covered grass, searching for tiny subjects before sunrise

This dew-covered slender fly patiently posed for a 30-image focus stack.

The macro fever is back. 🔥🪰✨

Die Erholung nach meiner Operation hat deutlich länger gedauert, als ich erwartet hatte. Eine Zeit lang fühlten sich sogar kurze Spaziergänge wie ein kleines Abenteuer an.

Heute Morgen war ich endlich wieder im taunassen Gras unterwegs und auf der Suche nach Makro-Motiven.

Diese taubedeckte Schlankfliege (möglicherweise eine Schlankraubfliege) saß geduldig für einen Fokus-Stack aus 30 Aufnahmen still.

Das Makro-Fieber ist zurück. 🔥🪰✨

Ein „hübscher“ Garten ist nicht automatisch Natur.

Und wir übersehen dabei eine der wichtigsten Grundlagen unseres gesamten Ökosystems: Insekten.

Zu sauber. Zu ordentlich. Zu kontrolliert.

Und Insekten sind kein „Ungeziefer“.
Wenn man genauer hinschaut, sind sie faszinierende, farbige und hochkomplexe Lebewesen.

Sie brauchen keine perfekten Gärten —
sie brauchen echte Lebensräume.

Wenn sie verschwinden, verschwindet mehr als nur ihr Summen.

Was hilft:
– später mähen (z.B. erst ab Mai)
– heimische Wildblumen statt Zuchtblumen
– Blüten von Frühling bis Herbst
– Laub & Totholz liegen lassen
– wilde, „unperfekte“ Ecken zulassen
– keine Pestizide

A “pretty” garden isn’t automatically nature.

And we often overlook one of the most essential parts of our entire ecosystem: insects.

Too clean. Too tidy. Too controlled.

And insects are not “pests.”
Up close, they’re fascinating, colorful, and highly complex living beings.

They don’t need perfect gardens —
they need real habitats.

And if they disappear, we lose more than just their sound.

What helps:
– delay mowing (e.g. from May)
– plant native wildflowers instead of hybrids
– ensure blooms from spring to autumn
– leave leaves & dead wood
– allow messy, “imperfect” spaces
– avoid pesticides
