the sun shines the same as it did this time last year but somehow everything feels lighter. maybe it happened after we filled the gumball machine with nerds gummy clusters. or when i watched my best friends fall in love. or after i hung up 23 new photobooth strips. whatever is was, im grateful for the warmth around here. by @maddiemette

an ode to 28 & all the versions of me that led to this one.

a string of my worst days days lumped together in my throat. fingers lodged so far back there in an attempt to cleanse myself of the rotten fruit i had eaten.
•
my heart qualified for the olympics at the pace she was was going.
even broken, she still sprinted;
until one day she realized there was no longer something to run from.
•
my garden bloomed well this summer. each fruit a lesson in patience. last week, i found it all dead. a reminder of how quickly things will turn when we don’t tend to them like we promised.
•
hung on my wall, between postcards from him and poetry she wrote me, is a list of qualities my dream partner will have. turns out most days i am my own fiercest lover. by @maddiemette

the wildflowers grow taller out here. i wonder if i would too. the deer don’t fear people & the fawn gets so close to me, she takes an apple from my hand easily. i feel her nose as she feels my finger and we both shiver. do they rely on us? when did we decide relying on each other was such a bad thing? i’ve been relying on the wildflowers all summer long, picking the ones i see fit to brighten up my windowsill. i’m starting to worry that they mind. maybe not everyone wishes to be swept up and carried home by someone else. by @maddiemette
