FRANKENSTEIN
a dance film by me, madeline isch

dancers:
@trin.williamson
@ashley_dancer08

song credits: goth (slowed + reverb) by @sidewalksandskeletons

this is my very first dance film, and even though it was filmed from an unreliable iphone 11 and my terrible camera skills are showing, i am still very proud of it. i was very nervous and weirdly embarrassed to show it to my whole class this morning but it was a relief to get this off my chest. i enjoy showing everyone what i’m truly made of. even if it looks like shit.

thank you 🩵💚

I am excited to present my work “Jesus at the Gay Bar” at Dance Source Houston’s Mind The Gap on October 7th at MATCH. I’m sharing the program with fellow Houston area choreographers Emilie Anne, Amanda Monteith, Prerna Shrivathsan, Giuliana Velez-Turner, and Isabel Villegas.

This piece means so much to me and I am so glad to share it as my first professional choreography showcase. I want to dedicate it to the LGBTQ and Trans youth of our community. I love you and I see you.

"Everytime someone steps up and says who they are, the world becomes a better, more interesting place." - Raymond Holt, Brooklyn Nine-Nine

Tickets are available to experience the performance at MATCH or via livestream at matchouston.org/events/2025/mind-gap-xxxvii. I hope you can join us, either in the theater or virtually! taken in MATCH - Midtown Arts & Theater Center Houston by @maddirdance

“This piece is about my experience about being a queer woman in the south and it takes inspiration from many lgbtq+ icons such as Venus Xtravaganza and Octavia St. Laurent. I arranged the music myself and it features sound clips from RuPaul, The Last Unicorn (1982), and videos from my high school years. I feel that even though being queer is so joyful and freeing, it can be difficult to come to terms with. This piece represents the turmoil going through my heart as a 15 year old trying to figure out who I was.” taken in MATCH - Midtown Arts & Theater Center Houston by @maddirdance

we have been working on my choreo 3 assignment since the beginning of the semester and i cannot express how excited i am for people to see it. i've been working this process very differently than i have in the past, but it feels good to get out of my comfort zone. even though it's just an assignment, i feel very proud of what i've created.

here are some photos from the process, inspirations for the piece, and my lovely dancers :) by @maddirdance
