✨📚🏫 Announcing! 🏫📚✨

We are so stoked to share that our very own Abbey Bryant will illustrate THE SECOND DAY OF SCHOOL, written by Audrey Perrott! Coming to bookshelves in the spring of 2028 from @abramskids!

@maddyabbs @audreysbooksandbakes

Sara Sproull at Abrams Books has bought, at auction, world rights to The Second Day of School by Audrey Perrott, illustrated by Abbey Bryant, and a second untitled picture book. Charlie cannot wait for kindergarten, so when the day finally comes, he tackles it with gus-to, but his feelings change once he realizes he has to go back. Publication is slated for spring 2028; James McGowan at BookEnds Literary represented the author, and Aliza Hoover at the CAT Agency represented the illustrator. by @maddyabbs

a fresh peek into my studio 👀
.
I know I’ve been quiet on instagram this year and as a person who loves being off the grid.. I think it’s often necessary for my creative process to go offline when I can. This year I have been rebuilding my portfolio and my website, while still making a bunch of new books! Most days I’ve been in this room though, painting for long hours, digging through my favorite children’s books and surrounding myself with all the little things that inspire me ✴️

Hey #kidlitartpostcard day! I’m feeling excited about my new portfolio update! Check it out at maddyabbs.com & shoot me an email to talk story ideas and new projects.
.
I’m into chunky textures, quirky characters, and imaginative storytelling. I’m working on a few book ideas of my own, including this cover, for a nonfiction book alllll about boats!

me and my grandma were two peas in a pod. everything I love about art comes back to her. I am now a collector of our memories together, like this one, as well as i’ve collected bits and pieces, little trinkets from her studio every time I go home. My grandpa is overwhelmed by the amount of paper scraps, doll heads and scribbly-notes she left behind when she passed a few years ago, but I continue to assure him there’s no one more grateful than me to inherit every collage scrap and paintbrush she once used. And although I miss her everyday, whenever I use one of her tools or scraps it feels like I get to learn more and more about her, from the little things she loved and kept. MORE on our little story to come someday but for now enjoy some chunky collage & some old pics of little me, mimi & some of our crafts 🤲🏻 by @maddyabbs

Another snippet from HOWL! This is the first book i’ve ever done fully with traditional mediums, so it’s been quite the learning curve for me. Can’t wait to show you more, those vibrant colors and messy textures are so exciting to play with ⭐️
