I am unbelievably proud of my incredible teammate Bertus today at Tryon. At just 8 years old, he made a technical 4* track feel like nothing for his third start at the level. Unfortunately, we did not have the finish that Bertus so deserved. When I was just 4 fences from home, I was shocked to have been pulled up by the ground jury. Anyone who knows me knows that my horses mean the absolute world to me and their welfare is first and foremost. I am gutted and equally very disappointed in this decision, that I wholly disagree with. Bertus deserved to finish his round…thank you to everyone who helped us this week and believes in us. B, you are a true unicorn and I am so proud of you today. by @maddytemkineventing

Day 1️⃣ of competition here at Tryon! Bertus put in a very grown up test in the 4*S to sit middle of the pack…I am so proud of the consistency that is starting to come in this phase, and very proud of him for staying with me today! His stable mate Fernhill Celtic Flight also put in a very competitive test in the training. Fiesta🪅 kicks off her weekend tomorrow morning, and then the fun begins! Thank you @bethtemkinbrown and @_justdayna for their help in warmup today, and @sophietullar_eventing for making the horses absolutely sparkle🤍

At the USEA AEC last week, the open intermediate division was positively STACKED with a who’s who of entrants, including a couple guys who just got back from Germany (maybe you’ve heard of them…) on horses we should probably pay attention to in the coming years. We’ll come back to them in a future video.

Here we want to showcase an unofficial Equireel favorite of the 2026 season so far and “one to watch” for 2027 and beyond: Maddy and Bertus.

We’ve been thoroughly charmed since they came on our radar. Check out their entire round here, and let us know if you agree.
