Looking Up
acrylic on canvas
12"x16"
I painted this view from beneath a palm tree because I have always loved looking up into the branches of trees. The perspective gives me a comforting sense of nostalgia while also inspiring wonder. During a recent vacation, I became captivated by the palm trees and imagined how amazing it might have been to grow up beneath them. Their sweeping branches felt so different from the pine trees and maples of Illinois more tropical, playful, and full of movement and possibility. Through layers of vibrant greens, blues, yellows, and purples, I wanted to capture the energy and joy I felt while looking up. taken in Medford, Massachusetts by @made.by.yvette

Soft Inheritance
36" x 48"
Acrylic on canvas
September 2026
Surrounded by softness and abundance, my daughter embodies the joy and security I have worked to give her. Her happiness fills me with pride, but also with a tender envy for the childhood experiences I did not have. The painting considers the complicated line between providing and overindulging, while asking whether giving our children “more” is an act of consumption, love, generational healing or all three. by @made.by.yvette

Saved for Later
8” x 10” acrylic painting

I take a lot of photos, sometimes just because something catches my eye, but often because I think, “I might want to paint that someday.” And then, of course, those photos sit in my computer. 😊

I’m finally getting around to following through on that creative exercise: going back through my own photos, choosing the ones that inspire me, and turning those captured moments into paintings.

This little 8” x 10” piece is one of the first.

It feels good to take something I noticed enough to photograph and give it a second life on canvas. I’m hoping this becomes a regular creative practice, and maybe helps me finally make my way through all those reference photos I’ve been collecting! 🎨
