We want to thank everyone who showed up to our very first pop up! The sole purpose of Rose Gallery is to seamlessly bridge fine art, fashion and culture to create discourse around the idea of what’s deemed to be “acceptable” to society at large in regards to expression. So much of the time, black expression is suppressed and diluted to the point of no return, leaving artists jaded. Our goal is to provide a platform for creatives to set their spirit ablaze and express themselves unabashedly and this pop up was simply the soil for that platform to bloom. We want to thank Justin Heard for lending his genius to our brand and being the first artist we’ve ever collaborated with—we are eternally grateful for his contributions. We also want to send a huge shoutout to Aniyah Donner of @donnerdesfleurs_ for helping us with the floral installation and set design; not only did it breathe life into the display, it became an extension of it. “Summertime in the Ghetto” by Justin Heard was created to honor the beauty of Milwaukee summers and the memories they hold. At the heart of the design is cans, a game we play exclusively in our city, woven into the fabric of our childhoods and neighborhood summers.
