Something more recent for my first post of the new year!! The winter sun has been making surprise appearances here in pittsburgh, so I got to photograph bits and bobs of glass pendants/beads i’ve made in the past couple months🥳
I love this medium but it is sooooo hard to get pictures :,)
1 & 2. First try of an implosion pendant (borosilicate)

(2/2) close up of my text project! inspired by a journal entry from my dear grandpa, who passed on so much of his passion for art and advocacy & love for our culture to me❤️‍🔥
if you’ve been in either of my living spaces the past year chances are you’ve seen this :)) tried to play around with texture a bit in this piece and used lots of impasto to make the flames, marigolds, and to give the roots more “substance??” so the words were clear when I went back in and used the handle of my paintbrush to etch the words in. I had like less than a week to do this during finals season and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out! by @madebymariaisa

1/2 text project (left)+ heroes & villains double diptych project (right) from painting 2 my final semester of senior year at pitt!!
most of my projects from this semester served as an exploration of personal identity and a celebration of my roots in the southwest, specifically the rich colors and landscapes that inspire much of my work🏜️
my first experience building my own canvases :) I was under a significant time crunch bc school lol so I hope to go back and rework these at some point! by @madebymariaisa

10 paintings project with closeups of some of my faves!! from painting 2 spring semester 2024…this was our first assignment for the class…5 in oil (top), 5 in gouache (bottom), and 5 categories (2 pieces of each): abstract, portrait, plein air, landscape, and artist’s choice. try to guess which is which,,,and also the ones where I started losing steam😮‍💨 by @madebymariaisa

I remember when this final project was first assigned in class and thinking “oh my god there’s no way I can do that I hate self portraits”…but after hours and hours (20+) of work I did indeed do it! and learned so much in the process as well! I wanted to challenge myself a bit to only work in warm tones/colors because I had mainly worked in cool colors that entire semester. I was worried it would turn out giving Simpsons, but I was really happy and proud of the final piece, and my prof was as well! by @madebymariaisa

not much to say here lol. this was a value/tone exercise, one of our first assignments for painting 1. my professor clocked me for not spending nearly as much time as I should’ve on this and gave me a B (def deserved tho). it’s not my best work buttt it’s a great reference point to look back at my progress and see how far I’ve come in terms of technical skills :) also taught me the pain of trying to mix neutral gray and black lol by @madebymariaisa

clay tile relief from sculpture 1 class project🪷
this is from fall semester 22-23 (november 2023). we were supposed to use this relief to make a plaster cast, but unfortunately mine did not turn out as planned :,)

another old project throwback :D!!
this one’s from spring semester 2021-2022 (i think I did this in March 2022??) for my Visual Thinking class project on personal identity🪞🌊the theme of this assignment was “Collectors and Storytellers” and I decided to take a pretty literal approach to this and use some of my personal seaglass collection (as well as some I bought lol) to create a self “reflection” of what’s important to me while also forcing other viewers to face themselves and reflect on their identity as well. for me, the different fragments of glass and pieces of mirror were intentional and meant to show how we are the sum of many different parts. but it’s also really nice to just hang up in my house, and I would def consider this more ‘functional’ than some of the other stuff I usually do :) hopefully I can get better pics when/if I put them up..but who knows when that will be🤭

this is one of the first still lifes i’ve done with charcoal since high school :)) loved revisiting the medium, both frustrating and so much fun to work with!! i’d definitely love to do more charcoal pieces in the future, I just wish it wasn’t so messy😵‍💫😵‍💫!!
also…i’m back!! time flies when you’re buried in work🫠 it was difficult to find time this semester to create, so i’m super excited to start getting back into things this summer and start posting again🤩🤩 by @madebymariaisa

drawing 1 final from last semester!! my first post <3
this project was about personal identity, our goal was to create 9 drawings that fit under the 3 categories of places (left column), cultures/holidays/festivals/traditions (middle), and the self (right column). we had a super short timeframe for this (like 2ish weeks?) and it definitely challenged me, but I really loved the project overall and what I was able to come up with!! by @madebymariaisa
