Pursuing the friction in the creative process that makes it a delightfully human experience ✨

work in progress snippets from an experimental hand-made film and visual poem I’m working on, exploring my personal experience in the larger context and history of the Filipino diaspora.

this summer, and earlier this winter, I fell in love with the medium after taking classes with my gem of a teacher @laurenmariedake 💎 I found this 16mm footage of Manila shot in 1938 and from there the rest is history, letting the process lead me intuitively where it wants to go and how it wants to come to life.

You know there is a lot
You don’t know,
but the time will come
when,
you give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you all your life, whom you ignored
for another, who knows you by heart
and you tell them
  I am coming,
 I am, calling to me.

Someone tells me, this is supposed to be home / and yet it is far from the home I’ve known my whole life / how home could both be familiar and foreign at the same time.

Scene from a handmade experimental film I’m working on with found 16mm footage of Manila from 1938 exploring my meaning of home, made in @laurenmariedake’s handmade film class.

“La Capitana,” 2026

My first experiment with stop motion from found footage 💃🏽🙃

BTS (in many tries 😅):
- Took >100 screenshots of still frames every 1-2 sec from the video
- Chose 2 base stills that I cut rectangular slits out of. That’s the one I changed twice in the video
- Took 40 consecutive still frames that went behind the base still
- Ended up expanding each still frame for this stop motion, so you could see her dynamic movement and gestures better (S/O to @jooshcoorn for the vibe coded tool to expand them for me in bulk as it would’ve been a manual pain in the a** otherwise)
- Took photos of each still and stitched together to create this stop motion with edited video in post production.
