#pottery #glaze #glaze #ceramics #addiction by @madeinmelbourne.au

My great #pottery pal @foxfarmceramics says it’s time for me to do an intro post, I find this super awkward & cringey but here goes (feels like an AA support group, but then again #potteryisanaddiction 😂)

My name is Vicky & I’ve been addicted to pottery for about four or five years now…

As the name suggests I live in Melbourne, proudly Australian 🇦🇺 but originally from Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 A million years ago I studied sculpture at #glasgowschoolofart and have worked in the visual arts ever since. I am a specialist publicart curator and deliver BIG artworks (because I’m short & I’ve got size issues 🤣)

I went to my first pottery class just after two years locked down at home in Melbourne. I wanted to get out of the house, meet new people and get back to doing something creative.

I’ve been to almost every ceramics class in the east bayside area of Melbourne & have met some lovely people including a very special group of potters who I call my ceramic sisters 👯‍♀️ 😂 The best teacher ever is the legendary Jedi master of clay - @hanmade_pots

For me pottery is an addiction, it’s a refuge from the stresses of life & work. The addiction has now grown to include an obsession with glaze making 😎

I have a small home studio. I’m on my second kiln & it lives in the garage. My two beautiful sons & forever patient husband will tell you that pottery is now everywhere in our house 🤓

Other addictions to declare - lingering in @kmartaus & @bunnings as a means of stress relief 😅

There’s also two border collies & two ginger cats who sometimes sneak into pottery photo shoots 🐈🐾

So what is your story?

Exploring bowls, shapes, sizes & colours

Sharing some pics of our behind the scenes #ceramicstudio tour of @gaya.ceramic last week. Honestly so mind blowing & inspirational, I’ve only been home a few days & a couple of studio sessions, but I’m so inspired by the studio visit, amazing staff, incredible showroom & the endless array of off the charts restaurants that we ate in during our most recent trip to beautiful Bali.
My new obsession is beautiful dinnerware 😎
A new dinner set is underway, will share pics as this develops 😍

A little bit of work & hobby crossover yesterday while here in #Bali we visited the absolutely stunning @gaya.ceramic showroom, studio & art centre.
Minds - were - blown
This is an absolute must for any #ceramics fans visiting Ubud, it is beyond beautiful - every creation completely stunning!
The team were also kind enough to show us round the studio where the magic happens, I will be forever grateful 🙏🙏🙏
Bringing a little bit of #Gaya magic home with us too 🤩 by @madeinmelbourne.au

So happy with a set up, we’re ready for shoppers!!

Last day before market & I can relax a little & play with staging, adding things that show how the various pieces can be used at home 😍
Looking forward to spending tomorrow at #morningtonmarket with my pottery wife @foxfarmceramics 🙌🙌🙌 by @madeinmelbourne.au

And we are go! Here’s everything bar the very last kiln load all ready to go to #morningtonmarket this Sunday 9am til 2pm, come on down in your in the area, my pottery bestie @foxfarmceramics & I have something for everyone! Cups, mugs, candles, candle holders, small bowl, medium bowls, big bowls vases & bud vases! So many beautiful colours too 🌈🎨 by @madeinmelbourne.au

Couple of snaps of recent things out of the kiln…
The run up to my second ever market has been fraught with glaze fails, emergency trips to my pottery guru @hanmade_pots & fretful calls to my pottery bestie & market mate @foxfarmceramics but hopefully my complete lack of discipline & organisation, coupled with life & job stress will all fall away by Sunday, fckng weather permitting 🤣🤣🤣
If you happen to
1. not be on the other side of some dumb running race happening in the city
2. Be anywhere near Mornington
3. Even slightly interested in non mass produced things…
Then Mornington Racecourse market this Sunday is the place to be 🤣😎😍
Come and buy a bit of handmade loveliness 😎

Fresh out of the kiln this morning, love this wee series of #terracotta candlesticks/candleholders, perfect for summer nights in the garden 🪴👩‍🌾☀️
I’ll have these on sale at #morningtonmarket next Sunday 11th October - pop along if you’re in the area

📣 Nothing like a looming deadline to get you to pull your finger out 👉🤣

It may well be very unrealistic to think that any of these things will be ready for the Mornington Racecourse #market next Sunday 11th October but that didn’t stop me from going full tilt today 🤣 Hanging vases, bud vases, candlesticks, plant pots and more. Will share progress throughout the week to see what survives & what hits the #reclaim 🤣

I’m not a fan of AI but I checked in to see what it tells me to post… here’s what it recommended…

5 things it says you probably don’t know about preparing for a craft market...

1. “We start preparing weeks in advance” - eh no we don’t… we(I) forget the date and realise the week before so then go wild trying to make enough stuff to fill a stall…

2. “Every display has to fit in a car” - not strictly true we have two cars due to sharing a stall with my pottery bestie @foxfarmceramics

3. “We obsess over weather forecasts” - this is actually true & was discussed earlier today at length 😎

4. “We never know which products will sell” - well kinda. We know from our first time that my big bowls sadly don’t sell well, so there will be less of them this time 😜

5. “We survive on coffee and adrenaline” - no we survive on champagne 🍾, wine & on the day wherever amazing food is on offer at the market 🤣🤣🤣

The weeks before a market are always a mix of creativity and chaos. ✨ …for me it’s more chaos than anything 🤣

Every item that comes to market is handmade with care, which means lots of late nights making, then trimming, then glazing and a studio full of beautiful mess.

I’ve had a lot of stress going on recently in the day job, so I’m behind, so spending the weekend glazing pieces for Mornington Racecourse market on the 11th.

What colours should I glaze them? I’ve got matte black, soft slightly translucent white, cobalt blue or I could go with some of my experimental glazes? Arghhh decisions 😜

Give me some direction pottery ppl 🤣
