Traversing the world has been the greatest adventure of my life. This time last year, I was preparing to solo travel in SE Asia, end in Japan. I can’t even really believe I did it. There’s still so much I want to say, photos that remain unshared. I hope I get around to sharing pieces of it. So much happens in reflection.

I came mostly unprepared with my stupid backpack. I said my stupid goodbyes. I got stamps in my passport. I hugged people whose names I only just learned the night before. I cried a lot. I drove real fast and got slammed by waves and fell on my face and drank whiskey. I learned how to say thank you in new ways. Everything happened the way it was meant to. I learned so much and seems as though there is only more to learn, as I continue on. Thailand and Indonesia and Vietnam and Japan. It came and went just like that. Solo travel (and as a woman) has been really fucking cool. I feel like I’ll never be able to put it all into words and not sure I really need to. Sometimes I was lonely, sometimes I felt like a rock stuck in a hard place, sometimes I was on the back of a motorbike on an island or a mountain road, totally free.

Along my travels, I started collecting these photos of “paths”. Alleys, hallways, bus aisles, the floors where we slept. As long as it was linear, I would take the photo with the line down the middle. I hoped to compile them at the end to make some linear connection between the places I visited. But the path itself, is never linear, is it?

Anyway, all this to say, I have very little advice to give and disagree with most of the advice I read online. So much of the experience was just showing up. Figuring it out for myself. I urge you to do the same.

I feel indebted to those who held me up. Thank you to everyone I met along the way, thank you to the people I love back home. As I said so many times in those four months, I hope our paths cross again.
