It’s been a few months since I did a Meet The Maker Post so if you are new here, read on to find out a bit more about me and my business!

I'm Sam, the the owner, designer, creator behind MadimiMagpie!

MadimiMagpie started officially in Feb 2023 when I started selling my work online. Prior to this I’d been making jewellery mainly as a hobby from around 2021. I’d been working in a very scientific and technical field for most of my career up to that point and decided I needed some creative balance. The idea to create jewellery originally came from watching the TV programme ‘All That Glitters’.

I went part time at my day job in 2022 to be able to focus on setting up my small business and refining my skills.

Over the last couple of years I’ve settled into my ‘niche’. I view my work as being in the ‘alternative’ niche but am quite eclectic in that I cover a range of styles from gothic, fantasy, witchy and steampunk. A unifying theme throughout my work is wearability and elegance: I like to make pieces that are wearable and elegant but with a twist. I also mainly make one-of-a-kind or very limited edition pieces.

** Beautiful iolite crystal Pendant **

This necklace is designed and handmade by me and features a stunning iolite teardrop shaped stone set in a shield setting and textured with soft solder (a mixture of tin and real silver).

In crystal healing, iolite is celebrated for enhancing intuition, inner vision, and spiritual insight. This crystal is often used to aid meditation and stimulate the third eye chakra, helping individuals connect with their inner wisdom. Historically, Vikings are said to have used thin slices of iolite as sunstones to navigate the seas, demonstrating its optical clarity and directional properties.

As we are approaching gift giving season (aka Chr⭐stm⭐s) you may be on the lookout for unique handmade gift ideas!

If you are looking for a jewellery gift for someone who you think might like my style but are not sure which piece, then a gift card could be the answer. Likewise, if you are after some of my jewellery as a gift from someone else then why not ask them for a gift card so you can choose!?

Here’s a little bit more info about what I offer:

⭐Currently, electronic gift cards are the only option I offer.
⭐When you purchase a gift card you enter the recipients email address and add a message. The gift card emailed directly to the recipient for them to spend how they wish
⭐You can buy any value in multiples of £10 up to a maximum of £100
⭐Gift cards are valid for 1 year from purchase date.
⭐Gift cards are not refundable as they are a digital product

Spooky season is well under way here at Madimi Magpie HQ! If you have followed me for a while you know I love spooky stuff and tend to make it all year round. If you love it as much as I do then read on!

I’ve made these cute and dainty skull earrings from fine silver (99% pure) with added black eye detail. They are supplied on sterling silver earring hooks.

** New Autumn Spooky Collection! **

Not just for Halloween!

I released my mini collection ‘Grim Graveyards’ last week exclusively in my takeover day for the Magpie Market Group so you may have already had a peek! Now they are available for general purchase.

This mini collection takes inspiration from spooky graveyards and elaborate tombs and all pieces have been designed and handmade by me.

This piece is a handcrafted copper gravestone with a cross and skull motif that has been darkened for an aged effect. It is supplied on a black necklace cord.

** Aussie Metal Clay September Challenge update! **

Last month I showed you some progress with my piece for the Aussie Metal Clay (AMC) Support Group September challenge which had the theme of the change of seasons with inspiration from ‘trees, leaves, branches, birds and blooming fields’. I’m here with an update of the (nearly) finished piece.

The left hand picture shows the design sketch I showed before. It is a pendant based on the Celtic Tree Month of Muin which roughly aligns with the month of September. Muin has some beautiful associations of growth, fertility and abundance as well as introspection at the turn of the wheel of the year.

I have now created and fired all components which you can see on the right. I had a great experience with Aussie Copper Clay! So easy to work with, smooth and a long working time. It has fired perfectly and I love the warm colour tones!

I have a bit more cleaning and polishing to do and surface prep for enamelling the berries and leaves but it's nearly there!

** New Crow Earrings! **

Crow earrings are one of my most popular products so I’m always busy designing and making new variations!

Here’s a preview of some new designs I’ve just finished this week ready for an in person market at the weekend.

This time I’ve used plain colours (purple and a dark metallic grey) and added some dangle charms that I found in my stash. Shown here are purple with triquetra charms, grey metallic with key charms and grey metallic with moon charms.

Tell me do you like this design with added metallic charms? If so which is your favourite from these three new designs?

Today let’s talk about the range of earring finding options that I can offer to my customers!

I offer all of my earrings on good quality nickel-free earring wires as standard but did you know I can upgrade your earring wires?

Whether you just prefer sterling silver or require a more hypoallergenic option I have you covered!

Sterling silver is usually a good choice for those with mild sensitivity, but it contains a small amount of copper and thus is not a pure metal.

I also keep niobium and titanium ear wires in stock and they are considered two of the safest, most hypoallergenic metals for jewellery. Both are non-reactive, and 100% nickel-free. They are highly biocompatible, meaning they do not provoke immune reactions and are ideal for piercings.

On request I can change ear wires to sterling silver, niobium or titanium for a small extra charge.

I belong to AMCAW (The Alliance for Metal Clay Arts Worldwide). As well as providing a lot of tutorials and other learning resources to their members they also run several challenges a year where members can enter their work and be in with a chance of winning amazing prizes.

I entered the Fall Challenge ‘Lost Civilizations’ which was a fabulous theme and definitely fits my work. I did not win anything, and I did not really expect to as I knew the standard would be really high and the winning entries were all fabulous. However, this was still a bit of a landmark for me as I’m happy I have now got enough confidence to even enter this sort of thing!

This was my entry - inspired by the kind of pectoral necklaces the Egyptian Pharoahs wore with a bit of a steampunk twist! The main elements are made from bronze metal clay and assembled with dark blue and turquoise glass beads.

** New Autumn/Winter Collection! **

Over the weekend I launched a new collection for the autumn season: Moon Madness! This collection takes inspiration from the autumn and winter moons and I have picked appropriate crystal moons to reflect their properties.

This collection has been created as a collaboration with Rebellious Rocks, purveyor of quality crystals and no-nonsense sweary information and affirmation cards! Each moon necklace comes with an information and affirmation card in a purple velvet pouch.

Here’s a summary of the pieces as shown in the video:

Carnelian and copper. Represents the Harvest Moon (Early Autumn). Carnelian brings active vitality to help you harvest the rewards of your hard work.

Obsidian and haematite. Represents the Hunter's Moon (Late Autumn). Obsidian provides the sharp focus and spiritual armor needed to confront fears and cut away what no longer serves you.

Green aventurine. Represents the Beaver Moon (Early Winter). Green Aventurine ensures your preparations for the coming winter are met with optimism and prosperity.

Grey agate moon and clear quartz. Represents the Cold Moon (Winter). Grey Agate provides the steady mental stability and emotional comfort needed during the longest nights of the year.
