Back in January, I put out the feelers to see who might want to get together and talk about Wuthering Heights before the highly anticipated (and, might I add, controversial) movie came out. It felt like a cultural moment I didn’t want to miss and I wanted to share with others.

I’d wanted to start a book club for a long time, but I had no idea how to actually go about it.

Who would come? Would it be fun? Would people actually want to keep doing it?

Turns out, yes. And what followed has genuinely been one of the highlights of my year.

There have been very strong opinions, very late nights, a lot of wine, plenty of disagreements, and conversations that somehow always end up going far beyond the book itself.

But my favorite part has been getting to know people I already loved in a completely different way. There’s something so special about hearing how someone interprets a character, a relationship, or an idea and suddenly seeing the way their brain works a little more clearly.

My friends are so smart. They notice things I completely miss, challenge the way I read something, and constantly open my eyes to perspectives I never would have arrived at on my own. And somehow, through talking about fictional people and their questionable life choices, I feel like I’ve gotten to know my own friends more deeply too.

All because one day I decided to post a story and see if anyone wanted to read a book. I would encourage you to do the same!
