It’s all happening for us. A potent shift occurs when we let go of the idea that life is here to punish us. Yes, sometimes life feels unfair and intense and overwhelming, like there is one thing after another trying to keep you down. It can feel heavy and like it’s never going to be “good” again…until it is. Because that goodness is within you and all around you; it’s always been there. You can’t always control what happens in life, but you can choose how to orient to the happenings.

Each human experience is unique, and yet we all have these moments that push us to the limits. Where we begin to question “why me?”. But, if we lean in and accept that these experiences are here for us, then they will open us, expand us, awaken us, remind us, connect us, transform us and bring us back to love.

It’s a beautiful trip 🌀 by @madisonsmith.dc

Suffering is optional.

Can you let yourself be with the pain without attaching to it?

Easier said than done, I know. But, I also know from experience, with both physical and mental/emotional pain, that when I let it consume me, I suffer.

However, when I welcome it, detach from it and observe it for what it is, it slowly begins to loosen its’ grip and fade away. Our resistance to life’s events causes suffering.

I believe these times of intense pain can either bring us into a perpetual state of misery or they can set us free. It’s your choice, really.

I choose to navigate these moments of intensity without numbing with drugs or alcohol, without taking a pill, and without running away, but with tuning in. Instead of asking why it is here or when it will go away, I identify it for what it is. “Oh hello___ nice to meet you again.”

Instead of suppressing it or fearing it, I accept it. Surrendering to the perfect Innate intelligence that runs the show; divinely working for me, not against me. Full trust, full surrender, FULL intensity, and eventually, full freedom.

ALIVE AND ALIVE!!

What would it feel like to step into your truest, most authentic self? No hiding behind a facade, no self-abandoning through people pleasing, no suppressing the bigness of who you are in order to keep others comfortable.

I promise it feels like absolute freedom! Here’s your permission to be YOU, boo 🫶 by @madisonsmith.dc

A (re)birth

When witnessing an unmedicated birth there is often a sacred pause just before baby emerges. A stillness. A moment that feels like time just stops.

Before this pause the birthing woman meets the depths of herself. Parts of her she never knew existed. And just when she feels like she can’t continue on, the stillness comes.

In this pause there is an unconscious gathering up of strength, courage and love.

She takes herself by her hand and walks herself through one more wave of intensity. And with this intensity she surrenders. And in that surrendering she births not just a child, but a new transformed version of her.

Death, Birth, Rebirth🌀

33 felt like a version of a sacred pause. Death of the ego, (re)birth of the soul. Grateful for the intensity of 33 and grateful to be in year 34. by @madisonsmith.dc

“It’s so nice to finally meet you.”

Said someone recently who I have met a few times over the years. But it was an introduction to this version of me. This raw, unfiltered, open, fullest expression of Madison.

It feels like I have lived many lives in these short almost 34 years. Moving through interpretations of who I thought I was, who I thought I “had” to be, and certainly being who I was not, all to get to who I am. A coming home to myself. What a trip.

“It’s so nice to finally meet you.” -me to me💘
