Behind the scenes of ‘LEE’: the film.

Made my directorial debut with a dream team; and we had the honor of capturing the legend himself, Mr. Lee Garrett.

At 81, Lee reminds us all what soul really is. We were on break grabbing lunch when he quietly wandered off and found his way to a piano in the corner. That scene was supposed to be next… but the moment was too raw, and too beautiful to stage. So, we did what all reasonable filmmakers would do: We picked up the camera right then and there.

The dust on the keys.

Lee’s weathered hands……

I wrote this script in 30 minutes, and filmed it two weeks later in a studio filled with decades of rich music history. Bringing this story to life was not a solo effort, either. It was completed alongside an incredible team who are more than my collaborators - they are my village.

It is beyond gratifying to see LEE on the cinema screen.

Lee Garrett himself was in attendance, front and center.
An official selection at @lashortsfest is a win for us all.
