I feel called to share a small bit of my testimony on here today. For those who take some time to read, I hope this post reaches you in the way you might need.

For the past few years I constantly thought about getting baptized, but I always talked myself out of it. I told myself “I’m not ready,” “I’m not good enough yet,” “I need to stop sinning so much first.” What I didn’t realize is that getting baptized is something I’d never truly be “ready” for because I am born a sinner. I will never be “good enough” because I am born a sinner. What I also realized is that at the same time, I was always ready for this. And even though I am a sinner, I am always good enough for God. This journey has forced me to make a lot of tough decisions. Everything that I thought was important to me, everything I thought made me who I am, I realize is not. When I chose God, a lot of pieces of me died and I was left feeling empty. I made the decision to trust that God would fill that emptiness with pieces that served me. It’s been scary, I’m not going to lie, and I’ve found myself feeling impatient, doubtful, afraid. But I’m learning everyday how to embrace this, and it’s making me stronger, kinder, wiser. It’s teaching me patience, empathy, understanding.

Before, I selfishly wanted both the Lord and the world, but just by that I was choosing the world. All of the worldly things that we desire are meant to distract us from the Lord and from the life we are meant to live. We have to trust that leaving the worldly life behind, which we’re born to yearn because we are natural sinners, will benefit us in a significant way in the long run. It’s so easy to just choose the world because there’s instant gratification and pleasure. Justifying sinful actions is seriously so much easier. Following this life might be fun in the moment, maybe even for a few years, but really just leads to emptiness in the long run. We’re left chasing things to fill a void that only God can fill. I’m done with that life. I want to live the best life and impact the most people I possibly can while I’m here. I tried doing that alone and through my own ways, but I’ve learned that the only way is through God. by @madiyaharriott
