💌 Dear Gnass, When Paul sent me your 1992 saddle bag and explained the story behind the old California-made Salsa MTB and the #CascadeCougar project, I was thrilled to accept the bag creation challenge. After being given creative freedom, I began to ask questions to garner the driving force for my slice of the project. Besides the fact you were making bags before I was born. How could a bag carry so much history and still belong to the original Chico rider? This is when it hit me.. We don’t just make bags… We create a companion to experience the world of cycling together. This re-creation of a tried and true Gnass Gear bag will be mounted to @blackcatbicycles Salsa inspired frame, and displayed @made.bike leading up to the @oakridgetrailsalliance fundraising raffle. This bag pays homage to a time before social media, and the plethora of bag makers within the cyclist’s digital reach. Exterior branding was kept true to your 1992 design. This is to honor the bag of the past, outside Gnass inside Mad Monkey 🙉🙊🙈 So Gnass, wherever you are. Shine on you crazy diamond. - Mad Monkey 🐒 by @madmonkey_designs

A 1992 Specialized Stumpjumper - Built from love and friendship Our goal was to create a one‑of‑a‑kind build, proving that repurposed soul can outshine the “new.” Through a collaboration with six master component makers and one artist, we transformed this legend into El Mono Loco. Older riders remember rolling this bike off the showroom and taking it down their first mountain trails. 🚲 The younger riders lust over the summation of retro mods like the smooth 1x11 drivetrain, 165mm pure cranks or the custom Ti bullmoose bars. ⚙️ But, the ones who see through it all, who look past the noise and into the soul of our Stumpy, understand that this is more than a bike. It’s a piece of functional art, meant to be experienced in motion. 🎨 A huge shoutout and thank you to all hands involved in the project!
