I don't think I've actually said this yet, but today I was reflecting on the fire and realised something that still doesn't sit right with me — none of the smoke alarms went off.

What I do keep thinking about though is this guy, our #5 child, my birthday buddy, Isaiah.

When the fire started, myself and my second eldest son were asleep after night shift, and their dad had just jumped in the shower. Isaiah and the younger kids smelled smoke, and before any of us really understood what was happening, he was yelling, "Fire! Get out!"

Without hesitation, he gathered his three youngest siblings and got them outside safely.

I jumped up and helped their dad try to fight the fire, but it quickly became clear it was beyond us. While I was getting everyone out, Isaiah was making sure his older brother woke up and got out too.

As many know, their dad ended up in critical condition and was fighting for his life. Thankfully, he's doing amazingly well now.

Looking back, I realise just how selfless Isaiah was that day. He never asks for much, always worries about everyone else, and despite his siblings driving him crazy most days, when it mattered most, he stepped up and protected them.

To my boy, thank you. Mum is so proud of you and so grateful for your quick thinking. You helped save your family that day, and I'll never forget it. ❤️ by @madmum08

Its been what 2 weeks tomorrow and yup still talk of the community... mind you its hard not to drive past and not see it considering we were on the main road...
It is sad however seeing this beautiful home like that... its quite sad really... by @madmum08

Here comes the next hard part after losing our house to fire... its the reapplying for houses, there isnt a shortage of homes theres just us! a really big family with 3 incomes and 5 kids under 18, so the decline of multiple applications await us and thats when heartbreak becomes depression, giving up leads to desperation and being happy to take anything just because.

Currently staying with friends and thats ok but eventually peoples patience wears thin even my own, is at the brink of exploding because kids just wanna be kids but you wanna be respectful of where we are and they cant understand to keep the noise down pick up after yourself and all the rest of it...

We are grateful we are somewhere and not necessarily on the street like most but dang we need a landlord to give us a shot... so im counting every failed application, the frustration of navigating the new ways to apply for homes and realising the cost is out there even beyond our means and not sure how anyone can afford these prices and still be able to feed their families is ridiculous...

Anyways rant over the struggle has begun... by @madmum08

Not the best pics they wouldn't sit still, but our fur babies, Misha and Luna are living their best life with their new jackets to keep them warm since losing all their things too, our big girl and her partner are doing their best to keep them fed, watered and look even warm, they were soo excited to see me last night oooh how I miss them, wont be long hopefully girls til we can get a home fingers crossed be reunited again properly... til then they are safe and well... by @madmum08

I wasn’t even going to say this, because I’ve tried hard to focus on the good that has come from this nightmare… but there’s one thing that has been eating away at me.

We have always gone above and beyond for family. Whether it was a shoulder to cry on, someone to listen, helping with food, lending a hand, or showing up in hard times — we would move mountains for the people we love. Because that’s what family does… right?

So to find out that certain family members could drive past our home while it had just gone up in flames, see people rallying around us trying to help, and laugh… that hurt in a way I can’t even explain.

Not a call. Not a message. Not even checking if their nieces and nephews were okay.

Meanwhile, we had family travel from the Gold Coast, Ipswich and beyond to stand beside us, while others who live 10–15 minutes away couldn’t even do the bare minimum.

I’m not angry about the “stuff” we lost. Things can be replaced. What hurts is realising where we stand with people we would’ve done anything for.

Family means something to us. Loyalty means something to us. Showing up means something to us.

So yeah… shame on you. Not because you didn’t fix anything — but because in one of the worst moments of our lives, you showed us exactly who you are.

One day life has a funny way of coming full circle. I just hope when your hard time comes, people treat you better than you treated us. by @madmum08

Despite the crappy last couple of days, we still want to keep the positive and celebrate our big boy’s birthday. ❤️

He lost a few things too, but what matters most is that we are safe, together, and still here.

Happy 20th Birthday for yesterday, my boy! 🎉 We love you sooo much.

It’s not ideal, but we’ll get through this, one step at a time.
Goodbye to your teenage years and hello to your 20s…

Tonight Kobi learned a powerful little life lesson 💛

Last night while we were packing our groceries, a man came up to us looking a bit flustered. He asked if we had some spare change to grab a couple more bags because theirs had ripped (those paper ones really don’t last 😅).

I’m not the richest by any means… but I did have some change, so I handed it over. I could see Kobi’s face like, “Mum… why are you giving our money away?”
I told him, “Don’t worry son, he probably needs it more than we do. What you put out has a way of coming back.” ✨

Well… tonight at the checkout, Kobi wanted a little lollie but we were just short. Out of nowhere, a man behind us handed him $5 and said, “Here you go mate.”

The look on Kobi’s face 🥹

I smiled and said, “See… things have a way of coming back to you.” And he knew exactly what I meant. He said thank you with the biggest grateful heart.

It wasn’t about the $5.
It was about kindness.
About showing him that even when you don’t have much, you can still give.

The world can be tough, but there are still good people in it 💛
