Watching these kids run around and grow up is so beautiful… and so bittersweet, because my mom never got to meet them.

She used to call me all the time and tell me I needed to have more children so I could catch up with my brother and sister. They each had four, and I only had three. Well, Ma… I win. I have six.

I really thought I’d have more time with her. We lost a baby while she was still here, and after that, we didn’t even know if we wanted to try again. Then we did… and nothing seemed to happen. About a month after I came home from my mom’s funeral, I found out I was pregnant with Zvea.

Now I watch these kids, and I know she would be right there with them… all over them every second, rooted right underneath me, helping carry the weight as I step into this matriarch season without her. She would’ve made me something to eat, made me feel better, and let me be completely myself. I miss having that person.

My mom was loud and wonderful. And when we were in a room together...BOYYY WE TOOK UP SPACE. We could also tear up the dance floor!!! Life sure got a heck of a lot quieter without her.

Being called a witch never automatically made someone evil.

There was never just one “original witch.” Across history, the word has meant different things. Some women branded as witches were healers, midwives, or keepers of folk knowledge. Others were simply people caught in accusations and persecution.

Witch history is more complicated than the wicked-witch caricature. A label isn’t proof of someone’s character. A healer, a wise woman, or a person who walks a spiritual path isn’t evil just because someone else fears what she knows.

We can talk about witchcraft and history without repeating the lie that every witch was wicked. 🖤

I want to talk about diastasis recti for a minute…

Diastasis recti is the separation of the abdominal muscles, and it’s something a lot of women deal with, especially after pregnancy, multiple pregnancies, or abdominal strain. For me, it used to be about 3 finger widths wide. I have small hands, yes… but still. That was a pretty significant separation.

Now, a little over two years later, I’m down to about 1 finger width.

That may not sound like a huge deal to everyone else, but if you’ve dealt with diastasis recti, then you understand how big that kind of progress really is. Healing the core takes time, consistency, patience, and learning how to move in ways that support your body instead of putting more pressure on it.

I wanted to share this because so many women think they are “stuck” or that their body is just ruined after babies… and that is not always the case. Healing may not be overnight, and it may not be perfect, but progress is possible.

The diagram shows a simple visual of what that separation can look like on the abdominal wall:
Before — about 3 finger widths
Now — about 1 finger width

Look at those 2. Back when we were just 2 friends and I had no idea he would be my husband 10 years later. Wasn't long after this photo that we stopped speaking for 9 years.
