I’m writing this on the day I found out that my dad is dying from cancer, but by the time you read this he’ll be somewhere far away — not here, nor there, but somewhere the birds sing beautiful songs and the sun is always shining. Somewhere he is no longer in pain, with an iced coke in his hand and a smile on his face. Today I’ve been yelling at the sky, how this world could be so unfair and cruel to a man who has done nothing but show me and this world unconditional love. I can only hope to wear my heart on my sleeve as beautifully and tenderly as he did. A piece of me feels missing, I’m losing my best friend. A heavy weight in my chest from these past two weeks has only grown heavier. Everything reminds me of him. I hear his voice in my head, I see him in my dreams. Daddy, I will miss you for the rest of my life. Thank you for giving me the world and so much more. You will never know how much you’ve touched and changed my life, but I will live each day trying to show you. Please come visit me sometime, I will love you forever and a day
