Before I started piercing I didn’t know the big difference between the two forms of piercing. I thought the piercing gun at Claire’s was the easier and quicker option and tho that is true there are some major drawbacks to the method.

Those being…

1. The jewelry is doing the piercing:
The gun method pushes your jewelry through your ear. It’s not sharp either so think of a dull piece of metal being forced into your skin.

2. It’s unsanitary:
Piercing guns are reused multiple times without being sanitized.

3. It’s not accurate:
It’s almost impossible to get the exact dot that was marked when you pierce with a gun. It’s a bigger tool that hovers over the area and is pretty much guesswork. From my own experience, I got my seconds at Claire’s and they are very uneven 😅

Why is hollow needle best?

1. With hollow needles, a really sharp point is entering your ear and essentially punching out a space for the jewelry to go.

2. The ear has a much better time healing when done this way and accuracy is unmatched. The needle is able to directly go into the marked spot.

3. Hollow needles are also single use so no need to worry about cross contamination.
