“Ibis al Delta (Goods/Gods)”
2024
Oil on linen
90 × 140 cm

Inspired by a photograph I took in 2021 near Rosetta, in the Nile Delta, a place once fertile and mythical and now marked by ecological disaster, the work depicts three white ibises surrounded by plastic and textile waste.

The three ibis species represented were sacred animals to the ancient Egyptians, embodying different deities.

The work reflects on illusory luxury, on the bright and noble colors of textile waste, on environmental pollution and on the current condition of animals within our society, suspended on the boundary between product and discard.

"Jade (selfportrait)" - Grylli e Scarabei
Oil on canvas
60 × 100 cm
2026

By reworking the original image with AI the pharaoh was replaced with a selfportrait and the limestone material with jade; the painting then developed from this digital result.
Through this transformation, the author inserts herself into the image, subverting its original logic and restoring it as a horizontal portrait.
Here, the different animal species are equal protagonists, and the artist is the last to be looked at, thus exploiting the movement of the western eye (accustomed to moving from left to right) as a symbol of the cultural relativity through which we observe reality.

“Fluorite - Grylli e Scarabei”
2026
34 x 44
Oil on canvas

The series "Grylli e Scarabei" uncovers a marginalized aspect of archaeology to reconstruct a pre Christian European cultural identity rooted in magic. Drawing on an archive of ancient seals and apotropaic stones circulating across the Mediterranean, these small objects are translated into paintings.

The aim is to explore the human animal relationship, focusing on how other species are historically used as symbols rather than recognized as living beings. Reinterpreted through a contemporary antispeciesist lens, the artworks depict multi species creatures to center the non human and the other, bringing to light narratives habitually left in the shadows of cultural and political discourse. The title itself highlights this dissonance, as the archaeological names of these artifacts are taken directly from insect species whose forms they mirrored.

"Eliotrope (Chnoubis) - (Grylli e Scarabei)"
2026
34x44
Oil on canvas

The serie "Grylli e Scarabei" draws on pre-christian iconography through an archive of magical stones, apotropaic objects and seals circulating across the Mediterranean, from Egypt to the Roman world, with encounters in Iran and Sardinia.
These small stones are translated into painting at a larger scale, reflecting on the human animal relationship and reinterpreting ancient icons through a contemporary antispeciesist lens.

The title refers to the historical names of these stones, which are also animal species, referring again to the dissonance between the animal itself and its human cultural representation.
