What a special night. ✨

Last night on behalf of my late husband Mduduzi “Mandoza” Tshabalala, we received an Honorary Award. We are so grateful to Honourable Minister McKenzie and the Department for this incredible honour.

This award belongs to all of you, the fans who still sing his songs word for word, who show up, who stream, who keep his name alive after all these years.

And a heartfelt thank you to everyone who supports the Mandoza Foundation and believes in the work we do to keep his legacy alive for the next generation.

Sidl’ Ubusha Bethu, which loosely translates to “we are spending our youth.” It’s in our hands, and we’re having it like cake.

I usually listen to an instrumental first. If it gets my creative juices flowing then it’s go time. the better it makes me feel, the more likely I am to write the song and actually finish it.

Don’t ask me how I was inspired to write a song about partying while I was lying sick in hospital.
I’ve written even better verses in worse conditions.

To say the least, I have a lot to be sad about. But I choose to be happy, always. I know I didn’t say much on this song, but I was happy when I made it and I hope it makes someone happy one day too.

I am grateful that my body and soul are still one.

So, here’s to youth. Here’s to joy. Here’s to spending this life while we have it.
