It isn’t about how fast you can make something. Making art is the journey. It’s about pushing yourself to keep trying and showing up despite the failures and frustrations. Art can be about noticing everyday things, expressing and releasing feelings, or simply getting lost in the joy and imagination of it all. The best part is, one day you’ll look down and be proud of how far you’ve come. Techniques I’ve been trying to get myself out of a 𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘦 ✧.*depression*·✧ and hopefully back to doing what I love, which is making jewelry 👩‍🏭⛓️🔥⁣ ⁣ I’m in my mind a lot. Sometimes it can be a fun time when I’m lost in a creative activity. Lately, it hasn’t been super fun. My usual ways of getting out of a bad headspace haven’t been working (ie. Starting with small tasks, working out, being outside, eating well, etc). ⁣ ⁣ Instead of trying to think my way out of it logically I’ve been trying visuals. Imagining my brain as if it’s a book I’m reading allows for some distance between me and my thoughts. I’ve been switching between visualizing myself as Little Red or muttering to myself, “that’s unreliable,” whenever a negative thought comes up.⁣ ⁣ Oddly enough, it’s the only thing that’s been helping and I thought maybe this can help someone else too. Discovering your passion isn’t always a direct path 🎢 Did you know when you found yours?⁣ ⁣ ⬇️Captions⬇️⁣ “Truth is, I didn’t love making jewelry making right away. In fact, I HATED working with metal when I first started.⁣ ⁣ I’ve heard people talk about discovering their creative passion like it’s love at first sight. Like a greater knowing that this is their thing. For me, it was more of a slow-burn enemies to lovers situation.⁣ ⁣ In art school, I chose jewelry design as my major not necessarily because I liked jewelry, but I was interested Computer-aided design and 3D printing. ⁣ ⁣ I also leaned into CAD because whenever I had to work with metal for a project I found it to be a sensory nightmare. From the heat of the metal burning my skin, sand-like dust EVERYWHERE, the high pitched scraping of the files to the grinding chatter of the flex shaft.⁣ ⁣ But after graduation, I needed a job immediately and that’s how I ended up working as a bench jeweler doing repair and manufacturing. ⁣ ⁣ After having to sit at a bench every day, sawing into my fingers, body coated in metal dust and polishing compound, hands shaking every-time I soldered, something did start to shift.⁣ ⁣ I saw my skills improve and felt my hands toughen up. The sensory issues began fading to the background. And my frustration turned into fascination⁣ ⁣ But if you’re watching this and you’ve also struggled for to find your creative passion or outlet, maybe consider that it won’t be instantaneous or that you might have more than one. Let me know in the comments if you ever experienced this feeling!⁣ ⁣ ⬇️CAPTIONS⬇️⁣ “Hi I’m the mage of metals, I design fantasy jewelry and I’ve lost my mojo.⁣ ⁣ My creative mojo that is, and I’m on a mission to get it back.⁣ ⁣ In the movies, Austin Powers’ mojo is his innate aura of erotic magnetism and charisma.⁣ ⁣ What I’m calling creative mojo is sort of similar. It’s an intrinsic well of creativity, curiosity and passionate drive that artists can tap into. ⁣ ⁣ Sometimes when you tap the well it’s overflowing, but other times it can be droplets or bone-dry, and when that happens it feels like your life-force is diminishing. ⁣ ⁣ Some might wonder, how does one lose their creative mojo? Well, for reference here is a list of things that have effected my spark over the years: (see list)⁣ ⁣ I was close to giving up on my art and jewelry this year and letting the depression take me.⁣ ⁣ But it wasn’t until I was bedridden with a 4-day fever, going in and out of consciousness, that I realized I want to live like the characters in the fantasy books I read. By that I mean, I want to rise to the challenge rather than hide from it.⁣ ⁣ I want to look back at my life and say I conquered some of my invisible monsters than say I was too afraid to face them.⁣ ⁣ Now, the first step I took in this journey is simple, I set up my new studio. Which does sound small but it’s something I avoided after moving into my new home because I knew that once I finished it, I’d have to confront myself. ⁣ ⁣ So if you lost your spark too, maybe start by looking at the space where you create your art. It doesn’t have to be pristine, it just needs to be accessible for when you start again. Can you believe these scam pages? Let me know if you’ve seen what I’m talking about.⁣ ⁣ ⬇️Captions⬇️⁣ “Some soulless drop shipper is stealing my videos & other artists videos to push their fast fashion merchandise. And once I show you the videos, you won’t be able to unsee it.⁣ ⁣ Also, a quick thank you to @theguidecrystals who calls on the public to help her find the real creators behind the stolen clips. And if you know anyone in the clips I show, please tag them in the comments.⁣ ⁣ Now…Here are my top 3 ways to spot a fake handmade dropshipper.⁣ ⁣ 1: First is to look out for the sympathy bait tactics. This could look something like, “Help save my failing business” OR “no one cares about my lotr cups🥺” etc. Essentially, they want to sell whatever sob story to get you to buy.⁣ ⁣ 2: The second way to spot a scam page is to PEEP THE PROFILE. If the profile looks like it was shit out of a spam robot, you’ll know it’s a page that just farming for views and quick sales. These pages don’t have an authentic face to their profile and recycle the same videos over and over.⁣ ⁣ 3: The third way is to ALWAYS LOOK AT THE HANDS. The hands in these videos will almost always give it away because they constantly change throughout the clips. (See examples in video)⁣ ⁣ Ultimately, you need to stay vigilant when it comes to these viral videos, I still see too many people falling for them. ⁣ ⁣ Hopefully, you found this helpful. I recommend watching! ⁣ ⁣ 𝗖𝗔𝗣𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦:⁣ “We all know Etsy’s been going downhill for a while. ⁣ ⁣ What started as a haven for artists & handmade shops became overrun with drop-shippers, labeling themselves as handmade. And now, AI slop-art has dominated the platform. ⁣ ⁣ It’s crazy that Etsy doesn’t have AI labels for these shops yet.⁣ What’s worse is these Etsy pages will have biography’s saying things like, “I’m Sam and I’ve had a deep passion for design and illustration for the past 5 years. My art is inspired by blah blah blah.” ⁣ ⁣ THEN you look closer at Sam’s work and it’s all objects blending into one another in a way they shouldn’t. Is it your passion Sam or do you just like cosplaying as an artist? And why is this allowed to be sold under the handmade category on Etsy? If I wanted to buy AI, I could go anywhere else on the internet.⁣ ⁣ Before anyone gets their panties in a twist, I know AI isn’t all terrible. I know people who use it for menial tasks and those who have to use at their corporate job. At this point it’s unavoidable.⁣ ⁣ But I hate the argument “I don’t have artistic talent” Or “artists always have to adapt and evolve to technology” ⁣ ⁣ Is it evolving? Can we call it that? Using a clanker to think and be creative for you? It sounds a lot like the opposite of evolution to me.⁣ ⁣ When I see the use of ai prompts to make and sell art or write entire books/scripts all I see is someone who is afraid to fail. Someone who doesn’t understand that true creativity comes from within you. They are inspired by eternal love, even after someone is gone from this mortal plane. The one hand reaches across the veil to hold hands with their loved one who has passed on.
