Sometimes you need to take a break from the direction you were going to just PLAY. I will never stop making my assemblages, but I wanted to try something new. It really is still me. It has color, layers and depth but in a different manner. I’m super happy with the results! Pieces I have worked on in the last couple of months. I was very inspired by the artists that I saw in Mexico City. These are some small studies in shapes, colors and varnishes. Someone recently posted about a woman artist named Leonora Carrington. She kicked bootie. I thought it was similar to Remedios Varo. I recently saw a Remedios Varo exhibit in Mexico City, turns out they were friends! But I personally think after seeing Varo’s work in person, that it deserves some recognition. She was friends with Salvador Dali and only now is being recognized for her work in the Surrealist genre. I loved it! Just to say nothing against Carrington, but Varos was super talented and kicked butt in her own right! by @maggieramirezburns
