This week's #ThankYouThursday goes to the amazing Derek, who raised an incredible £1,500 for Maggie's by taking on the AJ Bell Great North Run!

Derek is no stranger to supporting Maggie's, having previously completed fundraising challenges including cycling hundreds of kilometres and running miles for our centres over the years. When his friend Laura received support from Maggie's Lanarkshire following a cancer diagnosis, Derek felt compelled to once again give back and help ensure others could access the same support when they need it most.

While his journey to the start line wasn't always straightforward, Derek showed remarkable determination. After experiencing some difficult personal challenges and struggling with his mental health, he found encouragement through his local running club, support from friends and family, and the kindness of those rallying behind his fundraiser. Every donation and message of support helped him keep moving forward.

On race day, Derek joined thousands of runners in Newcastle for what he described as an "incredible" experience. Despite the unseasonably warm conditions, the famous Great North Run atmosphere, the cheering crowds lining the route, and a special boost from the Maggie's cheer squad helped carry him through to the finish line. Following the race, he enjoyed celebrating alongside fellow Maggie's runners and the charity team in the charity village.

When asked what he would say to anyone considering fundraising for Maggie's, Derek's message was simple: go for it. He spoke about how supported and appreciated he felt throughout his fundraising journey and the difference Maggie's makes to people living with cancer and their loved ones.

Derek, we are so grateful for your ongoing support, your honesty, your determination, and for choosing to support Maggie's once again. Your fantastic fundraising total of £1,500 will help us continue providing free practical, emotional, and psychological support for people living with cancer and those they love.

From everyone at Maggie's Lanarkshire, thank you, Derek. You're a superstar! by @maggieslanarkshire

This week's #FridayFundraiser spotlight goes to the wonderful Ross, who took on the Inflatable 5K and raised an incredible £423.65 for Maggie's Lanarkshire!

Rather than taking on a traditional fundraising challenge, Ross decided to do something a little different, in his works, "Why run when I can bounce?!" 😄

The Inflatable 5K was a fun-filled challenge, but Ross's motivation for fundraising was deeply personal. Ross chose to support Maggie's Lanarkshire after seeing first-hand the support the centre provided to his dad, Tommy, following his cancer diagnosis.

Ross shared how Maggie's has been an invaluable source of support for his family, particularly for his dad, who attends the monthly men's group and has benefited from connecting with others facing similar experiences.

When asked why he chose Maggie's, Ross told us: "I loved the idea that it was going not only somewhere local but also somewhere that has personally helped our family and countless other families too. The place is honestly like a haven; it's so peaceful and welcoming."

Crossing the finish line was made all the more special knowing he was helping support people living with cancer across Lanarkshire.

Ross, thank you for your incredible fundraising, your kindness, and for sharing your family's story. Raising £423.65 will help Maggie's continue providing free practical, emotional and psychological support to everyone who walks through our doors. by @maggieslanarkshire
