In 2023 @tewhanaunutbutter launched their range of nut butters: Choc Nut, Almond, Cashew, and Smooth & Crunchy peanut butters. Locally handmade in Te Pōhue (Hastings ish) of NZ and delivered NZ wide! What started with humble beginnings before Cyclone Gabrielle hit the region, has been developed into this vibrant and stunning range of nut butters 😍 The collectible labels feature hand drawn illustrations, depicting a whānau community, gathering and enjoying life together. Each jar tells a story, with illustrations including picnics, sports, adventures and local ranges. A complete brand design was established, including logo and branding, label designs (printed locally too), a website - recently updated and redesigned to sell the range - and social media templates, signs, printed flyers, stamp and apparel for markets. The brand’s base colours pull inspiration from the mountain range in Te Pōhue, where Lisa is based and looks out to everyday. It helps balance the bright collection of flavor colours allowing them to stand out on their own. From sketch to digital, this brand grew bigger and bigger from a little drawing. Inspired by the rolling hills in the Waikato, the gentle lap of the lake onto the shore and all the trails woven into the landscape… Riverside Adventures got a complete makeover by @magicfingersgraphics and renamed and now have a full brand, social media, signwriting, sign design, flyers, flags, tees and more! Come with me this morning… and watch how a farm morning turned creative. In the fight for real content over the slop that is being generated by machines… let’s pause, look outside and see the beauty in what is around us. Here I am simply using some watercolor pencils, over a light pencil sketch. I drew this at the kitchen table while my little one coloured beside me. It’s the little moments… to get outside, have some off screen time and use our brains for what they are made for: creating and imagining. Give it a go!! This was a 15 minute exercise - keep it short and have fun! Anybody else genuinely concerned for our future? Of the legal right your work has? Or what someone can do with it? Stand against it. Stop entertaining it or being entertained by it. Generative AI can go take a leap into the depths of the ocean and get cooked. Some minor assistive AI is just that, assistive. Use our brains: thoughts, ideas and creativity; use our human nature to do what is right; go share and go connect with real people. Get back our books, posters, events, art, play and outdoors and other stuff. Get off this train! I will never use generative AI in client work that I create. Will I use a time tracker or reporting or SEO tools that have assistive AI? Yeah, maybe likely. But to create? Never. Anything I draw, design or otherwise create is 100% done by myself. Call me old school, but I like knowing I didn’t drain a city of water to make a poster. And please, for the love of our children’s future: read the last slide. 😩 by @magicfingersgraphics

The year that was… after a bit of a hiatus on here, I’m popping in to share some bits and gap it again! Even though I’ve stopped sharing my work and posting regularly, I’ve still been working behind the social screens! It goes against most of my advice for clients, but I needed a break and less screen time with a toddler home 24/7. It’s been good! When architectural builders come looking for a website that reflects what they do, a brand renovation was the answer. They had the tools, they had the materials, they just needed the design vision! 😉 The ultimate request: to pull their online presence up to the same standard as their builds. @woodsmith_building_co got what they needed: a website that reflects the high quality, detail oriented work they do. Using their existing brand foundations, I adopted a “less is more” approach to their website design. The result? A refined design that elevates the brand in its simplicity. Simple yet sophisticated - a subtle colour update, refined typography choices and the use of negative space work together to lift the brand messaging. This allows their workmanship to shine through in professional imagery. Heyyyyy… Nat here. Have you checked how well your website works on a mobile device?! I know… simple right? Almost a silly question to be asking sometimes. But you’d be so so amazed at how crazy such a simple thing is overlooked. We’re on our phones all the time 👀 but- when it comes to double checking our websites, whoops! We can easily edit them on a desktop and overlook the mobile transition. Some things to look out for:- 🤓 * Can you read the text? Is it big enough or have enough contrast? Sometimes boys copy is teeny tiny. Or headings are bigger than they need to be. * Do you have spacing - between the sides of your phone screen, as well as between sections of information/pictures. *How does your text flow? So your headings run over four lines (sometimes harder to read!) or is that body copy just text scrolling forevveeerrrr? Who said signs have to be boring?! New signs at @totara_springs bring light, fun and character into the camp, where previous text based signs had a bit of snooze factor, and they were flaking & peeling (some even mouldy 🫣). The updated designs bring across branding that was custom illustrated and designed to be used across the website and other print media (signs, stationery, publications) as well. Wanna see behind the scenes? Come and install a sign with me (and my dad)! I’ve been working on a huge branding update with @totara_springs Christian Centre for the past year and had a tricky sign that needed installing. So, I merged a visit to the Waikato and a catchup with the olds all into one! Two sets of hands to get this 1.2m triangle sign up. It’s vinyl printed design to replace and fit into an existing structure. (Also, I only filmed him working coz he doesn’t know how to do social videos 🤪) 👉🏼 Why my dad? Well, he’s a retired sign and design guy, so he had the expertise and experience to get the job done together.
