This painting is about the heaviest period of my life—when I had to quit school, couldn’t see my friends anymore, and couldn’t even look people in the eyes. I felt like I had lost everything I had. That period lasted 14 months, followed by another year and a half before I finally found my light again.

When I started this painting, I didn’t expect it to be such an intense process. sometimes bringing back the feelings exactly as they were back then. I really painted through tears with this one, and I’m so happy it’s finished. by @magicvanheeswijk

‘Jouw huis in mijn huis’

I made a painting of Joop Verhagen’s house, my best friend who passed away 3 years ago.

After his death, my friend became my master.
Years later, I began to understand him.
He was a true master of being.
He let the neighborhood kids paint his house and waved to people on the street all day. He called me every week to ask if I wanted to come over, and I did. We were best friends for life. Forever my hero, forever “your home in my home.” I love you.❤️ by @magicvanheeswijk
