I don’t typically talk about politics because it flares such fury in some people. There’s so much corruption in government lately that it breaks my heart. Over the past decade, we’ve seen an increase in party power plays, self-interest, and manipulation—things that are the opposite of what democracy was intended to stand for: “For the People.”

In the past, I’ve voted but never truly used my voice. That’s changing now. Recently, I’ve been working hard to express my opinions and feelings, despite my fear of backlash.

Let me start by saying this: I don’t believe all Republicans are “bad,” nor do I think all Democrats are “good.” People are complex. We’re a mix of both. Sometimes, we act with good intentions yet the result is perceived as bad. It’s subjective. All said, I have a very hard time seeing much good in Trump.

I feel for the young Trump, who, despite his family’s wealth, had a difficult childhood and an abusive father. But a painful past doesn’t excuse someone’s behavior as an adult. It seems to me that Trump never truly grew up.

I see Trump as a bully, driven by hate and division. As the saying goes: “hurt people, hurt people.” I feel shocked, embarrassed, and sad that so many still support someone who has shown such a blatant lack of ethics and integrity. That is not what leadership should look like. His behavior is not okay.

I know I’m not alone in thinking that if Trump is elected again, it could be dangerous not just for our country but for the global wellbeing as well.

Please, take a stand against hate. Vote for Harris. by @magikkate

~Farmer’s Markets + local produce
~Chatting to no-longer-strangers while in line
~Balsamic glazes + roasted veggies
~Self-care thru cooking
~The satisfaction of a good recipe + full belly
~Post dinner sunset walks + cicada songs

For the dressing:
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
2 Tbsp white balsamic vinegar not overly sweet; dark balsamic vinegar will work as well
2 Tbsp red wine vinegar or sherry vinegar
2 tsp Dijon mustard whole grain or regular
2 tsp finely chopped fresh thyme
2 Tbsp finely chopped fresh Italian basil or parsley, cilantro
5 garlic cloves pressed
1 tsp freshly ground black pepper
1 tsp kosher salt

When I was little (5/6 years old), I would “attend” painting classes with my Mom in the backroom of our local Michael’s Crafts. I would trace one of the folk art templates, then Mom would set me up a palette of acrylics and away I went.

Over the years, painting has been in and out of my life—it’s been almost 10 years since my last piece—yet I’ve always loved to paint. It’s one of the spaces where I truly feel connection and flow to something bigger than me.

Every single time I paint, I hit a point of frustration. My inner critic / perfectionist comes out and I hyper focus on the outcome. I get stuck in my head. On a deeper level, I think fear of failure and judgment often holds me back, when really art is more about self expression and exploration. About creation.

This time pulled thru my fears. I definitely cried at least once, although happy tears. I’ve missed this.

Hey world! It’s been a long time since I’ve posted a picture of my face on social. My 30’s have been full of self-reflection and personal growth. I kinda hid away…

As I amp up for the next chapter, I’d like to practice taking up more space. To exercise my voice. And to be seen on social a bit more often. 😉

Recently, a friend took some creative headshots of me. It seemed a good place to start. Nice to see you again!
