For our Ethico Recycling community everyday is World Environment Day.
We’ve built a community of 100+ conscious recyclers who go the extra mile: cleaning, sorting, and dropping off their waste with intention. This isn’t just about recycling - it’s about changing behaviour.

At our Recycling Station:

♻️Segregation becomes second nature People sort waste by type, preparing it for maximum recyclability.

♻️Plastic literacy grows
Understanding plastic packaging codes leads to smarter, more conscious purchases.

♻️Plastic literacy improves
Knowing your packaging codes = making better choices at the store.

♻️Less waste, better choices
Engaging with their own waste helps people consume less and shop better.

The ripple effect is real.
One recycler brings another. Slowly, it becomes a movement.

So don’t overthink it. Don’t wait to have it all figured out.
Start where you are, do what you can. You have more control than you think.

Week 227: #BeforeAndAfter
Isn't it absolutely magnificent when we start out on a journey, then look back on where we started and just be amazed at the kind of progress we have made?

227 weeks ago, we started cleaning up #MahimBeach and we are absolutely ecstatic to see the kind of impact we've made! We managed to remove tonnes of plastic waste to prevent it from going back into the ocean.

🌊 We've successfully made Mahim Beach a place to hang out, again! Friends, families, and couples alike come over and enjoy the beach
🌊 Local authorities have been more involved and help us through.
🌊 Other groups have been inspired to take up civic action too at Mahim beach!

Not only have we managed to keep the shores clean, but…

🌿We've installed solar lights (and we love seeing people take a night stroll because the beach now has lights!)
🌿 We've painted the walls with beautiful and sensitising artworks
🌿We’ve distributed and installed dustbins on the beach
🌿We’ve been able to create a community of like-minded, conscious individuals
🌿We’ve built and launched ethicoindia.com to educate people on conscious consumerism and how they could shift to a sustainable lifestyle. @ethicoindia
🌿 We’ve also recently launched Project Goa to remove plastic from the environment in Goa and ensure that it gets recycled.

From a place of trash and garbage to a place where people come to hang out, Mahim beach has really transformed.

Want to be a part of the change? Watch out for our next post to see how you can join us on our next clean-up!

We finally watched The Plastic Detox.

We’ve always thought of plastic as an environmental problem. This documentary reminds us that it’s also a deeply personal one.

The documentary explores how plastic-related chemicals and microplastics have become so pervasive in our daily lives that researchers are investigating their impact on everything from hormones to fertility.

A fascinating and disturbing watch, it’s the kind of documentary that changes the way you look at everyday products.

A must-watch for everyone!

It ain’t over till it’s over.

What began as a beach cleanup became a reminder of what people can achieve when they stand for something, and show up week after week.

The work continues. The responsibility remains shared.

Every wall tells a story. This one reminds us where our journey started.
At Ethico we make conscious living convenient.

During our journey at Mahim Beach Clean Up, we had the privilege of meeting so many remarkable people. Thoughtful, warm individuals who instinctively put people and planet first. No noise, no fuss, just showing up and doing the work.

Many of them come from modest backgrounds, building their own lives while still making time to care for something larger than themselves. That, in many ways, felt like the real reward of the journey.

It was especially wonderful to reconnect with Lisbon Ferrao, Zsuzaanna Salda and their children, the heart behind the Vasai clean-up movement, when they visited us at Ethico recently.

What began as a father wanting a cleaner beach for his children has grown into a community of 20,000+ volunteers, collectively clearing over 900,000 kg of waste since 2017.

We’re grateful for these crossings of paths and for people who quietly remind us that civic action begins with care.

More power to those who choose to show up.

On the occasion of World Recycling Day, we want to share a film that brought a smile to our face: Landfill Harmonic’s Recycled Orchestra from Paraguay’s trash heaps.

Kids craft violins from oil cans, cellos from scrap tires and flutes from x-rays; all led by @faviohernanchavezmoran . He says, “When we make the instruments, what we try and do is make people pay attention to this trash. If we don’t take care of it, it’s going to contaminate our world, but if we do take care of it, it can create beauty.”

Trash mountains are grave, but hope lives in reducing what we consume and reusing what we can. In 2026, they’re still touring the world, mentoring new generations and turning waste into symphonies.

Watch the trailer and let it inspire your next choice.

Happy World Recycling Day 🌿

♻️ From Waste to Welfare 🐾🐍

Every 2 months at Ethico, all the waste collected is carefully weighed, segregated, and sent for recycling. This not only shows us what kind of waste builds up the most, but also gives us a chance to make it count.

Meet Rohit, originally from Kanpur, UP and now in Colvale, Goa for the past 5 years, working in waste management. He quietly and diligently handles the collection process together with the Ethico team, with full commitment. His consistency keeps our recycling loop alive. A big salute to all the people behind the scenes working tirelessly to manage our waste. 🙌

And here’s the part we love most: the proceeds from recycling are directed towards animal welfare…supporting WAG Siolim and Aaron Fernandes, a snake rescuer and conservationist.

So when you send your waste to Ethico, you’re not just recycling you’re helping create a safer, kinder world for animals too.

Recycle with Ethico → Support animal welfare.

Total waste collected : 264 kg

The kites of Mahim.
These majestic raptors have made the coconut trees along Mahim to Worli their home. While they’re apex predators in the bird world, kites are surprisingly social and often live in groups.

They only flock to Mahim beach when the shore is clean and the tide is high, ideal conditions to spot and hunt for fish and other marine life.

For their families to thrive, a healthy coastline isn’t just important, it’s essential. Every cleanup helps restore this fragile ecosystem they depend on.

“If we save our sea, we save our world” - David Attenborough

If you watch one thing this week, let it be OCEAN with David Attenborough.

It’s true, it’s magical, it’s deeply moving, a reminder of why our oceans matter, and how our choices shape their future.

We’ve taken too much for too long in our ignorance and in our convenience.

Live in balance, not extremes!

This is our salute to Sir David Attenborough and the filmmakers @silverback_films who help us see, feel, and care. 💙
